Chapter 82: It’s Me
Li Qingying saw that He Haoxuan was still sitting on the window ledge and said worriedly, “Hurry and get down from there, don’t fall.”
“Wife, you’re the one who told me to come into your room; I didn’t break any rules,” He Haoxuan replied cheerfully as he jumped down and headed straight for the pink bed.
The bed was decorated in an adorable way, and just looking at it made him want to lie down and sleep. Of course, if there happened to be a young and beautiful wife beside him, he would reluctantly accept that as well.
“How did you get up here?” Li Qingwan asked in surprise.
This was the third floor, after all. She had clearly seen He Haoxuan standing pitifully on the ground floor just moments ago—how had he suddenly appeared here?
He Haoxuan scratched his head and grinned foolishly, “I used to be a construction worker, you know. I’m in pretty good shape. I just climbed up the drainpipe.”
Li Qingying wasn’t even sure if there was a pipe near her window, but she didn’t have time to worry about it. “Later, sneak back to your room quietly. Don’t let my mother see you, or she’ll throw you out again. By the way, did you crash the car?”
Only now did Li Qingying remember the important matter. The car had been so badly scratched—what had happened? Was he alright?
“Are you hurt?” Li Qingying looked him over but found no sign of blood and finally felt relieved.
“Wife, the BMW X7 is so expensive, aren’t you upset?” He Haoxuan asked.
“The car’s insured, isn’t it? You’re not,” Li Qingying answered crisply.
He Haoxuan chuckled inwardly. “So, you do care about me, after all.”
“Hmph, as if! Who would care about you?” Li Qingying realized she’d shown too much concern, her cheeks flushed, and she couldn’t meet his eyes. “Go back to your room and rest.”
Now that he was in her room, there was no way He Haoxuan would just leave. “Wife, that won’t do. You know your mother’s like a rabbit—she’s got amazing hearing. If I go down to the second floor and she catches me, I’ll be in big trouble.”
“You’re insulting my mother?” Li Qingwan glared at him fiercely. “That’s my mother. Can’t you show her some respect?”
He Haoxuan thought to himself, “It’s only because she’s your mother that I’m not angry. Otherwise, with the way she yells at me, I’d have sent her to the lake for a drink long ago.”
“So, what should we do now?” Li Qingying asked anxiously.
Her mother was furious tonight, and she didn’t even know how to calm her down.
He Haoxuan sighed, “Life is hardly worth living right now. If your mother sees me, she’ll kill me with the kitchen knife for sure. Wife, I’ve come up with a brilliant plan. I’ll just hide in your room tonight to prevent any tragedies.”
Li Qingying’s face turned red at the idea. “You’re staying in my room—”
But He Haoxuan had already walked over and bolted the door, then made his way towards the adorable, inviting bed.
“Hey, He Haoxuan, you can’t sleep in my bed!” Li Qingying was flustered.
Last time she’d been drunk and hadn’t known he was there, but tonight she was fully aware and there was no way she’d let him sleep in her bed.
“Then I’ll sleep on the floor,” He Haoxuan said. “Wife, it’s dangerous out there. There are a lot of bad people these days. Just earlier, someone tried to kill me. So, I need to stay with you twenty-four hours a day to protect you—even if you go to the bathroom or take a shower, I’ll be with you.”
“He Haoxuan, you pervert!” Li Qingying stomped her foot in anger at his mention of following her everywhere.
He Haoxuan quickly waved his hands. “Don’t be mad, wife. I was just making a point—there really is danger.”
“I’m not afraid,” Li Qingying said, thinking he was just trying to take advantage of her.
“But I am! I was so scared just now, I nearly fainted. If you don’t believe me, let me show you.” With that, he reached out his wolfish hand.
“He Haoxuan!” Furious, Li Qingying saw his attempt and was about to stop him.
He Haoxuan quickly withdrew his hand, grinning obsequiously. “Don’t be angry, wife. I was just demonstrating. Now you can feel my heart if you like.”
He struck a pose as though he were about to sacrifice himself heroically.
“How will you sleep on the floor?” Li Qingying looked at the smooth floor, a little troubled.
It was a bit chilly now, and it wouldn’t be good for him to sleep on the floor like that.
“And aren’t you going to shower before bed? Your clothes are still in the room on the second floor,” she said with concern.
He Haoxuan’s eyes lit up. Heaven, this was progress! If he could shower and sleep in his wife’s room—even if not in the same bed and not at the same time—it was still a step forward, and there was room to advance further.
Excitedly, he said, “Don’t worry, wife. I’ll go back to my room and grab my clothes and bedding right now. I’ll be quick.”
“Really? You sure you won’t disturb my mother?” Li Qingying’s face suddenly turned serious, her eyes narrowing.
“Of course not, don’t worry. I’ll sneak down like a thief in the night—she’ll never notice,” he assured her, tiptoeing out the door.
Ha! Wonderful! Soon, he’d be sharing a room with his wife.
But as soon as he stepped outside, the door slammed shut behind him.
Startled by the sound, He Haoxuan stopped and turned back, reaching for the handle—only to find it locked.
“Wife, what are you doing?” he said anxiously.
With the door locked, how was he supposed to come back in to sleep?
Inside, Li Qingying snickered, “He Haoxuan, you scoundrel, trying to trick me! You could have slept on the second floor, but you said you were afraid my mother would find out. Since you’re so sure you can sneak back without getting caught, go back to your own room.”
“I—” He Haoxuan wanted to slap himself. Why had he talked so much? Now he’d ruined everything.
“Wife, open the door, please. Someone’s out to kill me; it’s dangerous for me to sleep alone!” he pleaded, keeping his voice low so Song Li wouldn’t hear and come charging up with a kitchen knife.
Li Qingying replied smugly, “If you’re so clever, open the door quietly and come in. But don’t you dare try to break it down, or my mother will definitely deal with you.”
With that, she sat proudly by the bed, cursing He Haoxuan’s cunning.
To think he’d try to stay by tricking her—she was furious.
Yet, deep down, she felt a strange discomfort that she couldn’t quite explain.
Forget it; she’d think about it tomorrow. Just as Li Qingying was about to get into bed, she noticed a shadow flicker by the window, and someone leapt in from outside.
She was about to scream when the figure spoke: “Wife, don’t yell—it’s me.”
Li Qingying focused and saw He Haoxuan standing there with bedding and clothes in his arms, a look of pure triumph on his face.
