Chapter 28: Someone Wants to Harm Me
He Hao Xuan wore a grim expression. “Dad, I don’t want to take medicine.”
“He Hao Xuan, if you don’t take your medicine, how will you ever get better?” Li Qing Ying suppressed a secret smile. He Hao Xuan, you want to mess with me? Not a chance. Now it’s my turn to mess with you.
“There’s nothing to fear. It’s a tonic, good for your health.” He Wei saw that Li Qing Ying wasn’t blaming his son but caring for him, and felt grateful.
Since Li Qing Ying still wanted to return to the company to handle some matters, they didn’t linger long. After chatting for a while, they rose to take their leave.
In the company’s underground parking lot, Li Qing Ying asked He Hao Xuan, “What do you want to do? Should I have HR arrange a position for you?”
“I’d like to be the general manager’s personal assistant, of course,” He Hao Xuan grinned shamelessly.
“Be serious. I’m talking business with you,” Li Qing Ying replied sternly.
He Hao Xuan said, “Then let me be a security guard here. That’s more free—come and go as I please.”
“Can’t you show a little ambition?” Li Qing Ying was exasperated. Being a security guard was a dead end with no future.
“I don’t have any qualifications. To become a white-collar worker in your company, you need at least a bachelor’s degree. I don’t think I’m suitable,” He Hao Xuan replied.
Li Qing Ying thought for a moment and said, “Then work as a warehouse manager. That doesn’t require much education, and it’s pretty easy.”
“Whatever you say, I’ll do,” He Hao Xuan said indifferently.
“Alright, go browse the mall next door. I’ll call you when work is over,” Li Qing Ying knew bringing He Hao Xuan into the company wasn’t just a matter of words—it would require HR formalities.
He Hao Xuan nodded and wandered into the nearby mall.
It wasn’t long before his phone rang. It was Li Qing Ying. “Honey, are you off work now?”
“He Hao Xuan, Qing Wan just called me. She and her classmates are going to some performance. Take my car and drive her there,” Li Qing Ying said.
“How will you get home tonight?” He Hao Xuan asked.
“I’ll have the company driver take me. Come to the underground garage now; I’ll have my secretary give you the keys,” Li Qing Ying seemed very busy and hung up right after speaking.
Seeing this, He Hao Xuan had no choice but to take the elevator down from the mall.
He was alone in the elevator. He pressed the button for the first floor, and the elevator began to descend.
From the eighteenth floor to the first didn’t take long.
But just then, the elevator seemed to lose connection and dropped suddenly.
There was no power, only the backup emergency light flickering, making the scene even more terrifying.
“Is the elevator malfunctioning?” He Hao Xuan calmly stood in the center, letting the elevator hurtle downward.
Normally, if an elevator drops, there are steel cables and emergency brakes that would stop it, preventing any major accidents.
But the elevator continued to fall. Perhaps the emergency brakes had failed, or someone was trying to harm him.
Time rushed by, and the elevator plummeted fast.
A regular person would probably faint from fright.
To fall from the eighteenth floor—certain death.
But He Hao Xuan remained calm, controlling his body’s inertia. Nine, eight, seven floors—he silently counted the descent.
“Almost at the first floor.” Suddenly, He Hao Xuan moved. With uncanny agility, he leapt upward, body extended horizontally, hands pressed against the left wall, feet against the right.
With a thunderous crash, the elevator smashed into the ground with a horrifying sound.
Taking advantage of this moment, He Hao Xuan moved. As the elevator struck the ground, he exited the car, falling through the air.
It all happened in a second or two. Since he was airborne when the elevator hit, he wasn’t affected by the impact. Landing a second later, the elevator was already on the ground.
Bang. He Hao Xuan kicked the elevator door.
The tightly shut door swung open easily. As he stepped out, chaos greeted him outside.
Many people had been waiting for the elevator, pressing buttons, but the elevator didn’t respond—it just plummeted. The crash terrified them, and they thought something catastrophic had happened.
“Run! Something’s happened!” People scrambled desperately for the exits, those slower being pushed down and trampled in the panic.
Luckily, it was the first floor, and the mall’s doors were wide. Though some were injured, no one died.
He Hao Xuan spotted a security guard standing frozen in shock. He rushed over and demanded, “Tell me, where’s the elevator control room?”
“On the top floor,” the guard stammered, trembling in fear.
Was this a man or a ghost? The elevator lost control and crashed, yet he survived unscathed?
Could he be dead, turned into a ghost? The thought made the guard shiver, too scared to hide anything.
The top floor? He Hao Xuan frowned inwardly.
The mall had twenty-eight floors, vast and sprawling.
He Hao Xuan didn’t hesitate. He dared not take another elevator; whoever targeted him might still be in the control room.
Even if there was an accident, both the steel cables and emergency brakes shouldn’t fail—someone must have tampered with them.
He Hao Xuan immediately ran for the stairwell, determined to find whoever was after him.
He sprinted all the way to the twenty-eighth floor and reached the elevator control room.
The door was ajar, and a sense of danger prickled at him.
He Hao Xuan said nothing and crept towards the control room.
He saw a fire extinguisher nearby, picked it up, and smashed it against the door.
The door flew open. A man sat motionless in a corner chair.
He Hao Xuan entered, seeing the man was a security guard, knocked unconscious.
The elevator system had indeed been sabotaged. Someone must have monitored which elevator he entered and targeted him.
Could those foreigners be coming after him? He Hao Xuan frowned.
His return shouldn’t be widely known—only Scorpion and Shager knew.
They wouldn’t dare leak his whereabouts; if they did, their fate would be grim.
Besides, even if those people overseas knew he was in Huaxia, they wouldn’t dare come for revenge.
But—
Nothing is absolute. Faced with immense interests, and enemies eager for his downfall, someone might act through others.
No matter what, he had to find out who was behind this.
Thinking this, He Hao Xuan ran back to the elevator to inspect it.
The steel cables were indeed damaged, and the emergency brakes disabled. Everything pointed to someone targeting him.
Hmph, let’s see if you can survive. He Hao Xuan sneered coldly.
His phone began to ring urgently.
