Chapter 50: You Have a Nosebleed
Li Dong and his wife followed Li Qingying to the general manager’s office. Song Li, visibly upset, scolded, “Li Dong, I’ve been with you for over twenty years. Can’t you show a bit more capability and secure some more benefits for us in the Li family?”
He sighed, his face drawn. “How am I supposed to fight for more? You know as well as I do—they’ve always resented us for not having a son. It’s a blessing they haven’t thrown us out of the Li family altogether.”
Song Li’s temper flared immediately. She snapped, “Useless! And you have the nerve to complain? Are you blaming me for not having a son? You’re the one to blame!”
Li Dong said nothing, lowering his head as he sat on the sofa nearby.
Song Li had always dominated the household, the true head of the family.
Li Qingying, unable to bear watching her mother treat her father this way, tried to console her, “Mom, you shouldn’t say that. Grandmother’s always had issues with our family. I couldn’t even become general manager before—just a department head. Now I’m vice general manager. That’s already quite good.”
Song Li sighed, a look of helplessness in her eyes. “It’s a pity—I only got to enjoy the glory for half a year.”
Li Qingying continued to reassure her, “Dad, Mom, don’t worry so much. We still hold some shares in the group. When the New Year comes, we’ll get a share of the profits. What is there to be anxious about? Let’s go back to work. The more we work, the more we can earn.”
“Qingying, you really do have the right attitude.” Song Li fell silent and went off to her own department.
In the evening, He Haoxuan noticed that Li Qingying hadn’t come home in her BMW X5 but was instead riding in Li Dong’s Highlander. He asked in surprise, “Honey, where’s your BMW? Did you send it in for servicing?”
“Servicing, my foot!” Song Li snapped, furious. “He Haoxuan, if you’re really a man, then stand up for Qingying!”
“What happened?” he asked.
Song Li replied angrily, “This afternoon, the old lady appointed Li Dasong as general manager again, making Qingying the vice general manager. That Li Dasong even said only the general manager can drive the BMW X5, so he took the car back. Now Qingying has no car.”
“They’re bullying my wife again?” A flash of anger appeared in He Haoxuan’s eyes. “They’re asking for trouble.”
With that, he turned to storm out.
If there’s a score to settle, it should be settled now—no need to wait till tomorrow. He would make sure Li Dasong and the old lady deeply regretted this.
Li Qingying thought he was about to go fight Li Dasong and quickly grabbed his arm. “Don’t go and hit them.”
“That’s right, violence won’t solve anything,” Li Dong added anxiously, afraid He Haoxuan would act on impulse and things would spiral out of control if he actually hit Li Dasong.
Those people had been bullying them all along. Now that the old man was gone and the old lady sided with them, things had become even more complicated.
“I won’t lay a hand on them, don’t worry,” He Haoxuan said, gazing at the beautiful, captivating Li Qingying beside him. It was a shame she would only hold his arm, not embrace him fully.
Li Qingying had always treated her family well—even though they often ostracized her, she endured it all with loyalty and affection. It made it hard for him to act rashly.
Still, if he couldn’t deal with the Li family directly, he could always exert pressure through Quange Trading.
Did the Li family really think that with one hundred million in funding, they could bully his wife? What a delusion.
“Honey, don’t worry. Everything will be fine,” He Haoxuan reassured her, turning to comfort Li Qingying after seeing Li Dong and Song Li head off to dinner.
“I’m already content being vice general manager,” Li Qingying laughed. “You don’t need to worry about me, and definitely don’t go fighting anyone for me.”
He Haoxuan’s expression grew serious. “Not only would I fight for you, I would even kill for you. If they weren’t your family, I’d really love to give them a beating. How about I open a company for you, make you the chairwoman?”
“Enough with your wild talk. I don’t have any grand ambitions. Grandmother still treats me decently—she hasn’t cut my salary. The only thing I’ve lost is the title of general manager and the authority to sign off on big projects. Otherwise, I still enjoy the same perks.”
After she went inside, He Haoxuan took out his phone and dialed. “Shager, it’s me.”
“King, you finally called! I’ve been waiting for your call all this time!” Shager exclaimed excitedly.
“Have your company immediately halt cooperation with Baili Group. As for the one hundred million loss, I’ll make it up to you,” He Haoxuan explained.
“Unbelievable! They dare bully the Queen? I’ll go settle the score with them right this minute. I’ll make sure they’re on their knees begging for forgiveness!” Shager shouted in anger.
What was a hundred million to him? It was nothing—like a penny others wouldn’t even bother picking up from the ground.
Besides, if this project didn’t go through, his reputation in Europe would take a major hit. He was nearly beside himself with rage.
“King, how about I set up another company, invest a billion euros, and make the Queen chairwoman?” Shager offered.
He Haoxuan shook his head. “You think I don’t have money? Why would I need you to fund a company for my wife? Just do as I say.”
“Yes, King.” Shager didn’t dare say more.
He Haoxuan returned inside to see Li Dong and Song Li enjoying their meal, while Li Qingying also seemed content.
After dinner, Li Dong and his wife went upstairs. Li Qingying stayed behind with He Haoxuan to tidy up.
“You’re the young lady of the house—helping me with chores?” He Haoxuan teased.
“If you can do it, why can’t I?” Li Qingying shot him a glance. “By the way, I spoke to Mo Xiufang. She’s looking for a job for you in the company. If something suitable comes up, she’ll let you know.”
“Alright.” He Haoxuan didn’t want to refuse her kindness. Whatever she said, he’d go along with.
After finishing up, Li Qingying brought out a bowl of pitch-black herbal medicine from the kitchen. “Come on, drink up.”
“Do I have to drink this every day?” He Haoxuan grimaced.
The worst part for him was this mysterious ancestral tonic his father had somehow procured. It was supposed to be incredibly potent. Every time he drank it, he felt a surge of warmth lying in bed—he couldn’t go on like this.
“Fine, if you don’t want to drink it, I’ll call Dad and let him know,” Li Qingying said mischievously.
“I’ll drink, I’ll drink—don’t call him.” He Haoxuan shook his head helplessly.
He could bear a little bitterness—he’d just tough it out.
After finishing the herbal medicine, Li Qingying came over to take the bowl from him. As they stood close, He Haoxuan inadvertently glanced down and caught a glimpse of her snowy-white skin—
Instantly, a rush of heat surged through him, and he felt his nose grow damp.
“Oh, you have a nosebleed!” Li Qingying exclaimed in surprise.
Only then did she realize he had been staring at her chest. She flushed with a mix of embarrassment and anger, stepped back a few paces, and clutched her collar tightly. “You rogue.”
