Chapter 33: Are Your Eyes Uncomfortable?
“All right,” He Haoxuan replied indifferently, nodding his head.
The dishes arrived swiftly. The girls, including Xiaojun, had never tasted such delicious food before. In no time, they were chattering away, completely forgetting about their earlier alliance with Li Qingwan to deliberately complain about the food.
Li Qingwan was so infuriated that she stomped her foot, resorting to kicking He Haoxuan under the table.
Startled, He Haoxuan, who was in the middle of eating, looked up at her. “What’s wrong?”
“Is the food good?” Li Qingwan asked, frantically blinking at him.
“Hey, Li Qingwan, what’s wrong with your eyes? Are you feeling unwell?” He Haoxuan asked in confusion.
Li Qingwan felt dizzy with exasperation. As expected, He Haoxuan, being a laborer, completely missed her hints.
People like him had probably never eaten anything this fine before; of course he’d say it was delicious.
Sigh, even her fake boyfriend was siding with Wang Zhisheng, how was she supposed to embarrass him now?
“Are you deaf?” Li Qingwan snapped angrily.
He Haoxuan shook his head and said, “The food isn’t good.”
“Ah!” Li Qingwan was overjoyed. So He Haoxuan did understand her hints after all—he wasn’t an idiot.
Wang Zhisheng was instantly enraged. He jumped up, slapping the table and shouting, “He Haoxuan, do you even know what you’re talking about? This meal cost nearly thirty thousand! And you say it’s not good?”
“It really isn’t. If you’d ordered some finer dishes, it would have been better.” With that, He Haoxuan rattled off a list of a dozen dishes, leaving Wang Zhisheng utterly bewildered.
Who did this guy think he was, to be so picky about food?
“Waiter, how much would those dishes cost if we ordered them?” Wang Zhisheng called out. “Bring us another round!”
He’d never even heard of the dishes He Haoxuan named; they must be dirt cheap.
A pauper like He Haoxuan wouldn’t know anything about luxury cuisine or expensive dishes.
The waiter did a quick calculation in his mind after hearing He Haoxuan’s order and replied quietly, “Those dishes are part of our Imperial Banquet. Including wine, the total is one hundred eighty thousand.”
“What? One hundred eighty thousand?!” Wang Zhisheng was so shocked he nearly fell over.
Li Qingwan, watching Wang Zhisheng get humiliated, was secretly delighted.
Not bad at all. Even though He Haoxuan was a laborer, he had quite the knack for acting, able to talk and bluff—he really helped her keep up appearances.
If he weren’t supposed to be her brother-in-law, if he weren’t so poor, she might even be interested in him.
“Wang Zhisheng, if you can’t afford it, stop bragging,” Li Qingwan mocked him.
She wasn’t about to let such a rare opportunity to embarrass Wang Zhisheng slip by. “He Haoxuan, if this meal wasn’t on Wang Zhisheng, I’d have loved for you to treat us. Last time, you treated me to a two hundred eighty thousand yuan dinner!”
“Wow, Qingwan, Brother Xuan is so rich—that’s amazing,” Xiaojun and the others gazed at He Haoxuan with envy.
He was so handsome and so wealthy; the more they looked, the more they liked him.
What a pity he was after Li Qingwan—otherwise, they’d be lining up for him.
He Haoxuan laughed. “Just this afternoon, I—no, my friend and I had a French meal at the Sky Restaurant that cost over half a million. This is nothing.”
Hearing He Haoxuan spin even wilder tales, relentlessly embarrassing Wang Zhisheng, Li Qingwan couldn’t help but secretly give him a thumbs up.
He was a real braggart. She thought boasting about two hundred eighty thousand was already outrageous, but he’d raised it to over half a million—twice as much!
“He Haoxuan, if we’re free tomorrow, let’s go to the Sky Restaurant and have another French meal worth over half a million, all right?” Li Qingwan clung to his arm, shaking it vigorously.
She pressed herself so close to him that he felt extremely uncomfortable.
Damn, was this really his sister-in-law? She seemed intent on making trouble for him.
“Sure, whatever you say,” He Haoxuan said, discreetly pushing her away.
Li Qingwan whispered happily in his ear, “You did well, He Haoxuan. I won’t tell my sister you harassed me.”
“Come on, what’s with you?” He Haoxuan found her completely unreasonable.
Wang Zhisheng sneered, “Since you love to brag, He Haoxuan, let me expose your lies right now.”
“What do you mean by that?” Li Qingwan asked in surprise.
“I have a friend who owns a small shop right next to the Sky Restaurant. I’ll have him check whether anyone had a French meal worth over half a million there this afternoon,” Wang Zhisheng sneered.
Those French owners at the Sky Restaurant loved to make a spectacle and hype up everything. If someone had spent that much on a meal, the whole place would be buzzing about it, and the shop next door would certainly know.
Li Qingwan’s heart sank. That useless He Haoxuan—couldn’t he have said it happened some other time at the Sky Restaurant? Why insist on saying it was this afternoon, making it so easy to check?
As soon as Wang Zhisheng called, the truth would be out—what now?
Thinking quickly, Li Qingwan tried to dissuade him, “Wang Zhisheng, everyone’s eating right now, let’s not make phone calls.”
“Hmph, Li Qingwan, are you scared? Bragging when you have no money—you’ve got no shame. That BMW He Haoxuan drove earlier wasn’t his either. Don’t think I don’t know,” Wang Zhisheng retorted, sneering.
Seeing Wang Zhisheng actually take out his phone and put it on speaker, Li Qingwan began to sweat—here they were, about to be humiliated in return.
“Hello, Dong? It’s Zhisheng. Did you hear about anyone having a French meal worth over half a million at the Sky Restaurant this afternoon?” Wang Zhisheng asked, half mocking.
“Yeah, Zhisheng, you heard about it too? That was a real tycoon! Over half a million for one meal—if I knew who it was, I’d be begging for a favor,” the man on the other end replied excitedly.
Wang Zhisheng’s jaw dropped as if someone had stuffed a rotten egg in his mouth.
“Hahaha, Wang Zhisheng, do you believe it now?” Li Qingwan laughed, shooting He Haoxuan a glance—he was calmly eating his food.
It seemed He Haoxuan had caught wind of this news and used it to his advantage—he was sharper than she thought.
“Wow, Brother Xuan, you’re so rich! We’ll be clinging to you from now on,” Xiaojun and the other girls rushed over with their drinks, eager to toast He Haoxuan.
With a guy as wealthy as him, even if he wasn’t their boyfriend, they’d be sure to give him a few suggestive glances—maybe they’d get lucky.
“Hehe, Xiaojun, now you know—in front of He Haoxuan, Wang Zhisheng is nothing,” Li Qingwan covered her mouth, laughing with delight.
Wang Zhisheng was unmoved. He was certain He Haoxuan had simply heard the news about the Sky Restaurant and used it to bluff.
If He Haoxuan was really rich, he’d swallow the dishes in front of him right now.
“Right, it’s time to call Dao and his crew,” Wang Zhisheng thought, taking out his phone to send a message in secret.
