Chapter 44: About to Slap His Face
Wang Zhisheng said happily, “Alright, Minnie, hurry and call Li Qingwan and the others. Tell them to take a taxi here, I’ll reimburse their fare.”
Actually, it wasn’t far from Qingshan University, so they would arrive soon.
The barbecue shop owner looked at Wang Zhisheng with concern and said, “Young Master Wang, shouldn’t I call the police now?”
Wang Zhisheng often came here in his Mercedes to eat, so the owner knew him.
“Boss, why are you in such a hurry? Let me have my fun first, then you can call the police. As long as I’m here, what are you afraid of? You won’t lose your money,” Wang Zhisheng sneered.
The owner, seeing Wang Zhisheng’s confidence, said nothing more and retreated to the back to attend to other customers.
He Haoxuan, hearing that Wang Zhisheng wanted to call Li Qingwan over, agreed as well. As long as she came, she could help pay the bill, and he could transfer the money to her later. They’d only eaten just over two hundred yuan, but since he had no cash, he was stuck.
Not long after, Li Qingwan and Xiao Juan arrived with the others.
As they got out of the taxi, Xiao Juan said cheerfully to Li Qingwan, “Qingwan, it’s been a few days, and Minnie hasn’t dared act arrogant in front of us. I never thought she’d invite us out for supper tonight.”
“Oh please, it’s just supper, nothing special about it,” Li Qingwan replied indifferently.
“By the way, Qingwan, didn’t you say you’d invite us to Starlight Club last time? When are we going?” another girl beside her asked.
Li Qingwan’s pleasant mood suddenly froze.
Was that a joke? The minimum spend at Starlight Club was a hundred thousand, and you needed a million to open a membership card—far too much. But she’d carelessly promised her roommates before. What now? And at that time, to embarrass Minnie, Xiao Juan and the others had even mentioned it in the dorm.
When Minnie heard that Li Qingwan would take everyone to Starlight Club, she was immediately silenced, obedient as a lamb.
“Well, let’s wait a bit. Haoxuan has been really busy lately. When he’s free, he’ll take us,” Li Qingwan stammered.
Suddenly, Xiao Juan pointed ahead and exclaimed, “Hey? Isn’t that Brother Xuan?”
“What would he be doing here?” Li Qingwan replied, unconcerned.
Although supper at a barbecue stall wasn’t expensive, He Haoxuan was a nobody, dirt poor, with no job, and his mother didn’t give him any allowance—he was completely broke.
But as Li Qingwan looked carefully, she realized it really was He Haoxuan.
“He Haoxuan, what are you doing here?” Li Qingwan called out in surprise.
“Oh, Brother Xuan is here! Now we can ask him when he’ll take us to Starlight Club!” Xiao Juan and the others cheered excitedly.
They ran over to He Haoxuan, chattering about when he would take them to Starlight Club.
Li Qingwan desperately winked at He Haoxuan. “He’s really busy and might not have time.”
She thought He Haoxuan was so poor that he couldn’t even afford a basic meal out, let alone take them to Starlight Club. She was trying to give him a way out so he could refuse gracefully.
Unexpectedly, He Haoxuan just smiled nonchalantly, “Sure, I’ll take you all next weekend.”
“He Haoxuan!” Li Qingwan nearly jumped in frustration.
Was he hopeless? How could he just blurt out a specific date? If he wanted to save face, he could have just said he’d take them another time—no fixed date, and Xiao Juan and the others would eventually forget. But now, by naming a time, he’d created a problem.
“Hahaha, He Haoxuan really knows how to brag. Taking you all to Starlight Club? Shameless,” Minnie mocked from the side.
Since Li Qingwan and her friends had arrived, they could start mocking He Haoxuan and embarrassing Li Qingwan.
“Minnie, what do you mean by that?” Li Qingwan’s face darkened as she glared at Minnie.
Despite looking down on He Haoxuan, he was still on her side, and she couldn’t let Minnie ridicule him—ridiculing He Haoxuan was the same as ridiculing her.
“What do I mean? He Haoxuan ate here and didn't pay. The owner wanted to call the police. If we didn’t know him, he’d probably be singing behind bars by now,” Wang Zhisheng shouted gleefully.
At last, he could humiliate He Haoxuan.
Li Qingwan was secretly shocked. That useless He Haoxuan—if he had no money, why come out and freeload? Was there nothing for him to eat at home?
“Impossible,” Li Qingwan insisted, desperately trying to preserve He Haoxuan’s dignity.
Wang Zhisheng laughed. “Li Qingwan, if you don’t believe me, just ask the owner.”
The owner, seeing a group of beautiful girls who seemed close to He Haoxuan, figured two hundred yuan was nothing. “Yes, just over two hundred yuan. He hasn’t paid me yet.”
Li Qingwan turned and winked at He Haoxuan. “Did you forget to bring money, He Haoxuan?”
He was so dense, she wondered if he’d pick up her hint. If he said he had no money, Minnie and the others would mock him mercilessly.
Unexpectedly, He Haoxuan nodded. “Yes, I forgot to bring money. I asked the owner if I could use my card, but he said no.”
He wasn’t even sure how much was on that world bank card in his pocket, but tens of millions at least.
“Boss, isn’t your shop a bit behind the times? No cash, and you don’t accept Alipay or WeChat?” Xiao Juan complained.
The owner, face bitter, replied, “Miss, I told him he could use Alipay or WeChat, but he insisted on paying with some strange bank card.”
Li Qingwan guessed that the card He Haoxuan carried was a fake, just for show.
“Boss, how much is it? I’ll pay for him,” Li Qingwan said. When she heard it was just over two hundred yuan, she quickly settled the bill, not wanting to give Minnie any further chance to mock He Haoxuan.
But Wang Zhisheng wasn’t about to let He Haoxuan off so easily. He shouted, “He Haoxuan, you’re just a broke loser. Stop pretending. Where’s your BMW? Couldn’t afford to rent it tonight?”
“Yeah, Brother Xuan, where’s your BMW?” Xiao Juan and the others asked curiously.
Before He Haoxuan could answer, Li Qingwan explained, “Don’t drink and drive, don’t drive if you drink. He’s had quite a bit to drink tonight—how could he drive? He Haoxuan, it’s getting late, you should head back.”
Li Qingwan didn’t want He Haoxuan to stick around and be further humiliated by Wang Zhisheng and the others.
