Chapter 112: Is It Worth Giving Yourself Away?
Page (1/3)
Luo Yixia's ears grew hot, and with a push of her hand, she shoved Song Chengyi away. "Sleep... let's sleep..." She didn't dare look at him, just buried her head and pulled the covers over herself, wrapping up tightly in the blanket.
Song Chengyi let out a low chuckle, the sound light and pleasant.
He got up and got out of bed. Luo Yixia didn't hear any other movement or noise. It seemed faintly as though Song Chengyi had left?
Sure enough, when Luo Yixia threw off the covers, there was no trace of Song Chengyi in the room at all.
Luo Yixia pouted, picked up her phone, and thought about asking whether they had landed—she had no idea where they'd all gone.
Luo Yixia: Beep beep, Mom, where did you guys go?
Of course, at this moment, Luo Yixia was still most concerned about her own mother.
A reply came quickly: We've arrived. We landed at eight. It's still bright out here, and we're outside eating roasted lamb right now.
As she said this, Luo Yixia received a video. In the video, everyone was there, and they'd even set up a grill in the middle, roasting lamb.
Luo Yixia inexplicably let out a burp... She'd had too many snacks just now, and somehow she had completely lost her appetite.
Luo Yixia: Mom, you guys have fun. I'm going to sleep.
Before Song Chengyi came back, Luo Yixia wanted to end the conversation.
Madam Yu Wenjing: Sleep is good. Go on, go to sleep now.
Luo Yixia gave it a rough glance, couldn't quite make sense of it, and decided not to bother.
Soon she heard footsteps. Luo Yixia turned off her phone, tossed it under her pillow, then pulled up the covers and squeezed her eyes tightly shut.
The moment Song Chengyi walked in, he saw her putting on this act.
"Drink the milk before you sleep." Song Chengyi set the milk on the nightstand.
Luo Yixia decided to pretend she hadn't heard anything. She was already asleep now, after all. She remained completely motionless.
"Stop pretending. It'll get cold soon."
Luo Yixia still didn't react. Since she'd chosen to keep up the act, she had to reach a state of self-forgetfulness—meaning she had to keep pretending until even she believed she was asleep.
"Luo Yixia, I'm leaving it here." Song Chengyi gave the "soundly sleeping" girl a faint look.
She could really put on an act. He'd just have to see how long she could keep it up.
Even when Song Chengyi lay down beside her, Luo Yixia still showed no reaction at all.
"Luo Yixia, if you don't drink it, do you want me to feed you?" Song Chengyi spoke up.
Luo Yixia kept her eyes closed, thinking to herself, Feeding me is fine too.
She didn't dare move an inch, just waiting for Song Chengyi to make a move.
Amid the rustling sounds, Luo Yixia seemed to hear Song Chengyi take a sip of the milk. Was he going to feed it to her now?
Gradually, Luo Yixia felt as though someone was drawing closer to her. Was he really going to feed her?
Song Chengyi looked at her calmly. Although her eyes were indeed closed, what was with that face full of anticipation?
Song Chengyi reached out and patted her cheek. "Alright, you've overdone the act. Drink it. It's getting cold."
Luo Yixia opened her eyes in discontent... It seemed her acting skills weren't up to par. No good—she'd have to work on them.
Seeing that Luo Yixia had given up and obediently sat up to drink the milk, Song Chengyi was quite satisfied.
"Hmph, fine then. Time to sleep." Luo Yixia shot him a glance and angrily pulled the covers over herself.
The two of them spent the whole week in peaceful, uneventful days. Luo Yixia had always been a homebody, and Song Chengyi was equally so.

Every morning, Song Chengyi would drag her out for a run, and then they'd come back and have breakfast together. However, whenever Song Chengyi went out to buy groceries, Luo Yixia still insisted on going along, afraid that Song Chengyi would mistreat her and not give her any meat.
Before they knew it, a week had passed, and school would start the next day. Luo Yixia felt a bit reluctant to leave. Once she went to school this time, she wouldn't be able to be with Song Chengyi anymore. The thought made her quite unhappy.
The main thing was that Luo Yixia didn't want to face it—if she went to school now, that group of delusional fan girls would definitely come after her...
These past few days, she had deliberately avoided looking at her phone, but she couldn't avoid it forever. You can run from the monk, but you can't run from the temple.
Luo Yixia sat on the floor helplessly, pulling clothes out of the wardrobe one by one. Autumn was almost here, so she still needed to bring some fall clothes. Song Chengyi was also packing his clothes, but the little figure on the floor had a look of utter despair on her face.
"Being like this every day isn't going to change anything."
"You don't know how scary those fangirls are. I'm afraid that once I go, you'll never see me again." Luo Yixia's face fell.
"Then just tell them the truth."
"Forget it. I'll just be miserable on my own." Luo Yixia shoved her clothes forcefully into the suitcase.
That evening, the two of them were watching TV in the living room as usual, when they unexpectedly received a call from Zhou Yun. These past few days, everyone seemed to have agreed to stay silent—no one had sent messages or called back. Luo Yixia hadn't wanted to disturb them either.
It was a video call.
"Hello? Mom." After Luo Yixia answered, it took her a while to recognize Yu Wenjing and Zhou Yun.
"Xiaxia, are you two in the living room?" Zhou Yun asked.
"Yeah, we're watching TV." Luo Yixia turned the camera toward Song Chengyi.
"You're going to school tomorrow, right? We won't be able to make it back until tomorrow morning." Yu Wenjing said.
"It's fine, Mom. You guys keep having fun. It's rare that you get to travel. We can go to school by ourselves."
"Then be careful, and make sure Chengyi drives steadily, got it?" Zhou Yun was also a bit worried. They had all gone on this trip, leaving the two of them to look after the house. Although neither of them had wanted to go, they'd ended up being away for over a week.
Luo Yixia chatted with them for a bit longer before hanging up. Even as she spoke, she'd yawned several times. After hanging up, it was past ten o'clock again.
Luo Yixia had no energy left. These days, following Song Chengyi's early-to-bed, early-to-rise routine, she'd been living like an old grandparent. Once it hit this time of night, she simply couldn't help but want to sleep—her eyelids were practically fighting each other.
"I'm sleepy. Time for bed." Luo Yixia leaned her head against Song Chengyi.
"Alright, let's go upstairs and sleep." Song Chengyi was rather surprised. She used to refuse to sleep until the middle of the night, but now she'd become so well-behaved.
Song Chengyi stood up, only to see Luo Yixia still sitting on the couch.
Luo Yixia slyly reached out both hands, looking like she wanted a hug—if he didn't hug her, she wasn't moving.
"You're too heavy." Song Chengyi said with disdain.
"I'm not, I'm not—I'm only a little over ninety pounds." Luo Yixia giggled, shameless as ever.
Song Chengyi had no choice but to crouch down in front of her. Luo Yixia happily climbed onto his back.
Song Chengyi easily hoisted her up.

Luo Yixia held tightly onto his neck. "Song Chengyi, do you remember the last time you carried me on your back?"
"Have I ever carried you before?" Song Chengyi honestly didn't remember ever carrying her before—he'd always been quite dismissive of her.
"Of course! When I was very little. Well, you probably don't remember. That year I'd just moved here—I was only nine then, and you were already eleven. Don't you remember?" Luo Yixia asked.
Song Chengyi thought for a moment. He really didn't remember...
"How can you have such a bad memory? Aren't top students supposed to have great memories? Such an important thing, and you don't even remember it." Luo Yixia was clearly upset about it.
"Huh? You really don't remember? Then let me tell you." Seeing that Song Chengyi had no reaction, she knew he definitely didn't remember.
"It was that year, right after I'd just moved here. I didn't have any friends, and my parents were super busy with work every day, with no time to keep us company, so I had to play by myself. Then one time, I was outside—at the park we took a walk to a few days ago. After school, I was playing there and I fell and scraped my knee. I was sitting by the road crying, and then I ran into you coming back from school. You carried me home on your back!" Luo Yixia said excitedly.
Song Chengyi had already carried her upstairs and set her down by then.
Only now did he recall what Luo Yixia was talking about.
It seemed there really had been such a thing...
Back then, on his way home from school, he'd seen this kid by the roadside crying her heart out.
But it wasn't that Song Chengyi had wanted to deal with her at all—it was completely because that little girl was so overly familiar. Since she'd lived next door before, she'd seen him around, and this little girl had walked right up, grabbed his clothes, and burst into tears like it was the end of the world.
Song Chengyi had been so unable to stand it that he'd carried her home.
"Remember now? Do you?" Luo Yixia bounced up and down excitedly.
"Mhm." Song Chengyi nodded.
"See! Good thing you remember. Let me tell you—it's because you carried me that time that I like you so much, you know?"
Song Chengyi thought to himself, If he'd known that carrying her once would cause so much trouble, he would never have carried her even if it killed him.
But... well, the way things were now wasn't so bad either. Having someone noisy by his side every day was actually... pretty nice.
"Song Chengyi, aren't I great? The kind who repays a drop of kindness with a gushing spring—you helped me once, and I gave you my whole self. See how much of a bargain you got?" Luo Yixia said with a look of anticipation.
"Yeah, quite a bargain." Song Chengyi bent down slightly and ruffled her hair with his hand.
Luo Yixia hugged him, beaming.
Song Chengyi hugged her tightly in return.
"Song Chengyi, I like you the most!" Luo Yixia had repeated this countless times already.
Song Chengyi just curved his lips into a smile.
The next morning, the two of them rarely slept in. The main reason was that once they got to school, things would get busy. Medical school itself had a packed curriculum, and Song Chengyi was about to start his internship soon—no telling how busy that would be.
Song Chengyi only got up at eight o'clock, while Luo Yixia was still sprawled on the bed, unwilling to move. Finally, she reluctantly dragged herself out of bed to wash up.
Song Chengyi was already making breakfast. Luo Yixia came downstairs, and the two of them ate together.
"Are we going to school in a bit?" Luo Yixia asked.
"We can go whenever we want." Song Chengyi took a bite of his breakfast.
"Then let's go after we eat. I don't want to eat at school—I want to eat what you make." The food at school was nowhere near as delicious as Song Chengyi's cooking.
"Alright." Song Chengyi had always granted Luo Yixia's every request.
Just as they were eating, there was a commotion outside. Voices could be heard as well. The two of them looked over in puzzlement.
