Chapter Sixty: The Lavender Fields
But these thoughts, she only dared to entertain in her heart.
As Luo Yixia walked through a narrower stretch, she was jostled by the crowd before and behind her, nearly losing her footing and falling into the water.
Fortunately, a strong hand caught her just in time.
Luo Yixia’s face was filled with lingering fright.
He watched her expressive little face, thinking how she never failed to worry him. If he hadn’t been vigilant just now, she would have ended up in the river.
This time, Luo Yixia finally got her wish and held Song Chengyi’s hand.
Of course, he didn’t let her go again.
With her careless nature, who knew if with just a turn, she’d either end up in the river or get lost.
Luo Yixia held her guidebook, reading intently.
“There’s a stretch of lavender fields not far ahead—let’s go have a look,” she said, not bothering to wait for Song Chengyi’s response, simply pulling him along as she ran.
It took them a while to find the place.
As soon as they arrived, Luo Yixia was instantly captivated by the sea of lavender before her—blue and purple waves, a dreamy land.
The lavender fields seemed to swallow up the world, as if even the sky was planted with lavender.
Luo Yixia took a deep breath; the air was tinged with a faint fragrance, instantly soothing her mood.
“How beautiful,” she sighed in admiration.
Then she pulled out her phone and handed it to Song Chengyi. “Take some photos for me, and turn on the beauty filter.”
Still uneasy, she activated the filter herself before passing him the phone.
Then she dashed gleefully into the field, making a classic peace sign.
Song Chengyi didn’t fuss; he simply pressed the shutter.
At the sound of the click, Luo Yixia hurried back to check.
Not bad—the skill was at least better than some clueless guy’s.
Luo Yixia then struck various poses, and Song Chengyi obediently kept taking photos.
“Your turn now, your turn! I’ll take some for you,” Luo Yixia said, hurrying over and swapping places with him.
“I don’t really like taking pictures,” he protested.
“Oh, just a few,” Luo Yixia replied, pushing Song Chengyi into the lavender field.
Song Chengyi didn’t pose much, simply standing there with one hand in his pocket.
But there was no helping it—he was so handsome that any shot looked like a beautiful scene.
His white shirt against the backdrop of the purple field was like a painting.
Luo Yixia couldn’t take her eyes off him, circling around to capture him from every possible angle.
In truth, Luo Yixia wanted a photo together with Song Chengyi.
But she didn’t know how to ask, afraid of being refused.
“So here you two are?” He Die ran over.
“I didn’t see you guys, so I came here to look,” Luo Yixia said, watching the two of them approach.
“You’re taking pictures? Let me get a few of you together,” He Die offered, not waiting for a reply as she took the phone from Luo Yixia’s hand.
Then she pushed Luo Yixia toward Song Chengyi.
The two stood side by side, a large gap between them, standing stiff and proper.
“Are you posing for a 1970s wedding photo or something? Why so formal?” He Die couldn’t help teasing.
Luo Yixia edged cautiously closer to Song Chengyi.
“Song Chengyi, are you a man or not? What’s with all the hesitation? Can’t you at least hold her hand, or do you not know how to kiss?” He Die was clearly impatient.
Watching the two keep their distance, she was beyond exasperated.
Song Chengyi seemed provoked; he reached out and pulled Luo Yixia into his arms.
Surprised, Luo Yixia looked up at him, their eyes meeting in the air.
With a click of the shutter, time seemed to freeze.
