Chapter Twenty: Stars and the Sea in Her Eyes
After taking care of the dishes, she sat down on the sofa, fuming, scrolling through her phone. Hmph... Too much. She’d thought he was so nice before, but it was all fake. She checked her phone—her mother hadn’t sent a single message. It really seemed as though she’d been abandoned. Yet deep down, Summer Luo hoped her mother wouldn’t text her, so she could stay here just like this. Heh...
When Chengyi Song came out, he saw Summer Luo sprawled across the sofa, watching short videos on her phone, giggling aloud. “Let’s go for a walk to help digest dinner,” Chengyi stood beside her, looking at the girl collapsed on the couch.
“No,” Summer Luo shook her head. She’d never gone for a walk to digest food in her life; in her mind, such a thing simply didn’t exist. She turned her head away and continued watching her phone.
The next moment, Chengyi Song gently plucked the phone from her hand.
“Ah!” Summer Luo protested loudly. She reached out to snatch it back, but Chengyi’s height advantage meant he simply lifted his hand, and she couldn’t reach.
Flustered, Summer Luo climbed onto the sofa, glaring at Chengyi Song in challenge, trying to retrieve her phone.
Chengyi Song tucked the phone behind his back. Summer Luo, entirely unconcerned with appearances, flopped onto Chengyi Song, bending over to grab for her phone.
For a moment, Chengyi Song was utterly distracted, watching the girl pressed against him.
“Ah, just a little more—still can’t reach,” Summer Luo muttered instinctively.
But she noticed Chengyi Song hadn’t moved at all. She raised her head and met his eyes directly.
Those were the eyes Summer Luo had fallen for at first sight: deep, indescribably beautiful. She always felt there were stars in Chengyi Song’s eyes, twinkling brightly.
In his gaze, there were oceans and constellations.
They stared at each other for a while, until Chengyi Song turned his head away and cleared his throat awkwardly.
Only then did Summer Luo realize, to her surprise, that she was pressed against Chengyi Song. She reflexively pulled away, putting some distance between them.
Her face felt burning hot...
Chengyi Song noticed the pink flush on Summer Luo’s cheeks, his expression equally awkward. He slipped her phone into his pocket, then took her hand and said in a tone that brooked no refusal, “Come out for a walk with me.”
“Wait, let me change my shoes, change my shoes!” Summer Luo called as she was pulled toward the door.
Only then did Chengyi Song release her hand, pausing to watch her swap shoes.
This time, Summer Luo didn’t resist anymore, following Chengyi Song out of the apartment.
They walked downstairs and wandered around the complex. Chengyi Song strode ahead, Summer Luo obediently trailing behind.
The cool summer night breeze brushed her cheeks, easing the heat she’d felt. She realized she’d been too hasty earlier, not paying attention.
Why wasn’t Chengyi Song saying anything? Was he angry? As she thought this, Summer Luo lowered her gaze. Oh, of course—he’d been pretending every day lately, hadn’t had time to adjust, so he’d been nice to her these past couple days. He used to hate it when she got close, hated talking to her.
Yes, why couldn’t she see reality even now? She and Chengyi Song got married for reasons others might not know, but she certainly did...
Summer Luo mocked herself inwardly.
Summer Luo, are you still living in a dream?
Chengyi Song walked ahead, noticing Summer Luo lagging far behind, her head lowered, lost in thought.
