Chapter 135: Only You Can Bring Me Displeasure
Page 1/3
“Yanyan, I... I regret it,” Luo Yixia bit her lip.
“Regret what?” Gan Yanyan looked at her, sensing the restrained emotions beneath Luo Yixia’s words.
“I... I regret that he won the championship, yet I didn’t even dare to say a word of congratulations to him in front of him.”
Gan Yanyan smiled gently to comfort her. “Now is the time. Go find him now, and say it to his face.”
She reached out to pull her along.
Luo Yixia didn’t move, shaking her head. “It’s too late now... I watched so many people push past me. I wanted to hug him, hand him water, wipe his sweat... but now, it’s all too late...”
Tears welled in her eyes.
This was the first time Gan Yanyan heard her speak of this. During military training, Song Chengyi had told her, so she understood—but hearing it firsthand was different.
“Xiaxia, sooner or later someone will find out. Why don’t you stop hiding it? Besides, Song Chengyi has always been very accommodating of you.”
Luo Yixia looked up at her but shook her head again. “He... is too outstanding.”
Gan Yanyan sighed.
Song Chengyi had scanned the crowd as he ran but never saw that figure amidst the throng. Even when he reached the finish line, she was nowhere to be seen.
Countless hands reached out around him—offering water and towels—but Song Chengyi’s eyes remained cold, never even glancing their way. He returned quietly to his seat.
Yu Bin laughed as he tossed a bottle of water to him. Song Chengyi silently twisted it open and drank.
“So after ignoring all those attentions, you end up drinking my water? Song Chengyi, do you think if your fangirls saw this, they wouldn’t misunderstand us?”
“Get lost,” Song Chengyi shot back without looking at him, his tone indifferent.
“Oh, so losing first place makes you this unhappy?” Yu Bin teased mercilessly.
“Are you bored of living or just itching for trouble?” Song Chengyi finally cast a sharp glance at him.
Yu Bin backed down, closing his mouth and sitting beside him.
“What? No sign of your little wife, feeling down?” Yu Bin’s voice was still loud enough to draw many glances.
Song Chengyi glared at him before lowering his voice obediently.
“Isn’t seeing your girl making you unhappy?” Yu Bin wore a teasing grin.
Song Chengyi said nothing, wiping sweat from his chest with his shirt.
He clicked the empty bottle between his fingers.
Was he upset because he hadn’t seen Luo Yixia?
The answer was yes. He didn’t know when these little emotions had crept in—anger sparked simply because she was absent.
“Forget it. For brotherhood’s sake, I’ll be magnanimous and tell you—I saw her.”
Song Chengyi finally responded, turning to look at him.
“I saw her clearly outside the crowd. She was trying to squeeze through but there were too many people. She tried for a long time but couldn’t get in. In the end, I saw her run back to the finish line. Song Chengyi, since you two are already in this relationship, why hide it? That girl wanted to see you but couldn’t get through the crowd—I felt so sorry seeing that, tsk tsk.”
“She doesn’t want to talk about it,” Song Chengyi said quietly, feeling a pang of discomfort.
“The girl doesn’t want to, but you can’t let her suffer like this. You take the initiative; you’ll both get used to it. Later, whether she talks or not won’t be up to her, right?” Yu Bin smirked mischievously.
Song Chengyi fell silent, lost in thought. Maybe Yu Bin’s idea really wasn’t a bad one.
“Alright, let’s eat. I ran all morning and didn’t hear a single cheer. It’s no fun,” Yu Bin patted Song Chengyi’s shoulder and stood.
Song Chengyi smiled and stood as well.
The afternoon competitions continued intensely. Luo Yixia’s 1500 meters was scheduled for the next day. She had thought to hide away in the dorm to sleep, but since the afternoon still had the boys’ and girls’ 3000 meters, Song Chengyi was going, and she had to cheer for Lin Ya.
The 3000 meters was later in the schedule, so Luo Yixia sat idly, eating and drinking—utterly bored.
Then her phone buzzed.
She took it out and saw a message from Song Chengyi.
Page 2/3
[Will you come watch my 3000 meters?]
Luo Yixia thought for a moment and replied, [There will be a lot of people. I’ll try.]
She thought the conversation would end there, but he sent another message.
[I want to see you at the finish line.]
Luo Yixia finally replied with a simple “Okay.”
But what good would seeing him at the finish line do?
Because Lin Ya needed to prepare early for the 3000 meters, Luo Yixia went with Gan Yanyan and Xu Jiayu to squeeze through the crowd at the finish line.
Gan Yanyan even handed her water and a towel.
“It won’t be needed again,” Luo Yixia said disappointedly.
“What if it is?” Gan Yanyan looked at her with a mixture of frustration and affection at her lack of spirit.
This time, with Gan Yanyan and Xu Jiayu helping, Luo Yixia managed to push through the crowd smoothly.
The 3000 meters required running seven and a half laps around the track, so the start and finish lines were close.
Once inside, Luo Yixia saw Song Chengyi warming up.
She hadn’t planned to speak, but Gan Yanyan shouted, “Senior Song, we’re cheering for you!”
Though many others were also cheering, Song Chengyi instinctively looked up—and spotted the timid little girl in the crowd.
She was obedient, after all—since she came, she came.
Song Chengyi’s mood lifted with an almost uncontrollable joy.
With the sound of the starting pistol, the boys’ 3000 meters officially began.
Luo Yixia watched Song Chengyi run by steadily, silently cheering in her heart.
“Xiaxia, say something! You have to shout, or he won’t hear you,” Gan Yanyan nudged her.
Hearing the many voices around her, Luo Yixia finally joined in the cheers when Song Chengyi ran past after the first lap.
Once is easy, twice is natural. By the fourth lap, Luo Yixia had completely let go.
Song Chengyi was currently in fourth place, but Luo Yixia knew the 3000 meters was exhausting. He couldn’t push too hard early on; he had to save energy for a final burst.
She felt more nervous watching him run than when she ran herself. Watching him so close, she wished she could run alongside him.
The laps kept passing—the fifth, sixth, seventh, and the final half.
Luo Yixia saw him gradually catch up to the two runners ahead. One more push and...
With cheers erupting, Song Chengyi crossed the finish line first.
He bent over, hands on knees, panting heavily. From Luo Yixia’s spot, she even saw sweat drip from his hair to the ground.
The crowd stirred, pushing forward, and Luo Yixia was swept to Song Chengyi’s side.
Many still offered congratulations and handed him water.
Song Chengyi stood straight, refusing any offerings, not even glancing their way.
He walked straight toward Luo Yixia.
At that moment, silence fell; everyone held their breath.
He gently took the water and towel from her hands.
After a few quiet seconds, the crowd burst into screams and cheers.
Song Chengyi acted as if he hadn’t heard and prepared to leave.
Luo Yixia stood frozen.
“Why are you just standing there? Aren’t you coming?” Song Chengyi stopped and glanced at her, who looked dazed.

Luo Yixia blinked uncertainly until Gan Yanyan nudged her several times, bringing her back to reality.
“Oh, oh, okay.” She finally followed Song Chengyi away.
The crowd’s noise gradually faded.
Gan Yanyan and Xu Jiayu gracefully withdrew, not following.
As Song Chengyi walked away, the crowd parted, slowly dispersing.
Yet countless eyes remained fixed on them.
The two retreated to the shade of a tree.
Leaning against the trunk, Song Chengyi twisted open a bottle cap and drank deeply.
Luo Yixia watched him tilt his head back, his Adam’s apple bobbing. Damn, he was so captivating. She turned her face away, refusing to look.
After drinking, Song Chengyi grabbed a towel and carefully wiped the sweat from his face.
“Are you just going to stand there and say nothing?” he said with a smile.
“Oh, um, congratulations on winning first place again,” Luo Yixia smiled.
“Hm, just a half-hearted reply? Only a word of congratulations?” Song Chengyi sounded a little disappointed.
Luo Yixia panicked. “Th-then... what do you want?”
“Hm, dinner out tonight? Just the two of us?” Song Chengyi raised an eyebrow.
Luo Yixia nodded.
“Song Chengyi... I... I watched you win first place this morning,” Luo Yixia hesitated but finally admitted.
“Really? Then why didn’t you come over?” Song Chengyi looked at her with tender concern.
“I couldn’t squeeze through... I didn’t dare,” Luo Yixia’s voice grew softer.
Song Chengyi sighed lightly. “Tell me, what am I supposed to do with you? Do you know how much I want to hug you right now?”
Stepping forward, Song Chengyi made Luo Yixia instinctively take a step back.
His gaze darkened slightly.
Luo Yixia knew that if he hugged her now, with countless eyes watching, it would be impossible to explain. She felt it wasn’t the right time.
Earlier, in the crowd, when he took her water, people might have explained they knew each other. Song Chengyi even called himself her brother in front of Yu Wenjing and Zhou Yun—he had been her “brother” for years, though he often ignored her privately.
If things grew more intimate now...
“Song Chengyi... give me some time. Let me think it through,” Luo Yixia lowered her head.
He looked at her and immediately wiped away his fleeting displeasure.
“You were the one chasing me. Why does it feel like I’m begging you to favor me now?” Song Chengyi said with a sour smile.
Luo Yixia stared at him in disbelief.
“I... I know, but I’m afraid of them mocking you, saying I’m not good enough for you. I’m not afraid, but I worry they’ll make you unhappy,” Luo Yixia took a deep breath.
“Hah, only you can upset me,” Song Chengyi chuckled, clearly dizzy from running the 3000 meters.
Now, whatever was on his mind, he said it all.
“Alright, Lin Ya’s about to compete. I have to go watch...” Luo Yixia felt the atmosphere was no longer suitable for chatting.
When did Song Chengyi become so charming... Ah, her little heart couldn’t take it.
“Okay, see you tonight,” Song Chengyi smiled.
Hearing that, Luo Yixia quickly fled.
