Chapter Twenty-Six: Wingardium Leviosa
But Gu Chongyan took advantage of this. By inscribing an array onto Su Yan, he stole the demonic power intended to transform Su Yan into a demon and converted it into his own magical energy.
That was why his magical strength had surged so rapidly.
However, Gu Chongyan had not yet gained the ability to fully absorb all the demonic power. If he failed to awaken from the intoxicating rush of strength in time, the overwhelming demonic force could still transform Su Yan’s body, ushering in the arrival of the Beast.
Watching the Beast struggle to descend, Gu Chongyan let out a cold laugh. “Want to come through? Try your luck in your next life!”
Suddenly, his magic—swelled to several times its former size—erupted. The magical circle beneath Su Yan’s feet burst forth with brilliant light.
Radiant patterns intertwined in the air, weaving a vast seal, layered like nets upon the Beast’s body.
The intricate sealing spell blocked the transfer of demonic power, tightly locking the Beast at the border of Hell.
“Insignificant insect, you dare obstruct the descent of the great demon god? I’ll burn your soul with the flames of Hell!”
In the void, the Beast roared in fury, twisting its warped body in desperate struggle.
Gu Chongyan snorted, a mocking smile flickering across his face. “Fine, we’ll see who prevails when you finally break through.”
He ignored the Beast’s rage, unleashing all his magical energy, enlarging the woven seals in the void.
Brilliant light sealed the channel for the Beast’s descent completely. Its monstrous, savage form was forced back into the hellish dimension amid its furious howls.
When all was done, Gu Chongyan’s legs gave way and he collapsed onto the ground, gasping for breath, feeling utterly drained and unable to stand.
Seeing his state, Matt hurried over to support him. “Are you alright?”
Shaking his head, Gu Chongyan took several deep breaths. “I’m fine, just a bit exhausted.”
“So, is the Beast dealt with?” The Old Stick approached, his face doubtful.
“Not yet,” Gu Chongyan replied, shaking his head.
Noticing the Old Stick’s instinctive frown, Gu Chongyan explained.
“The Beast is a demon, after all, not so easy to handle. But you needn’t worry too much. Though it’s not completely dealt with, half the problem is solved.”
“As you know, the Beast can only descend through the Black Void. While any Black Void suffices, it’s limited: the Beast can choose only one Black Void at a time for its descent.”
“Through the ritual just now, the Beast chose Su Yan as its vessel. But my magic blocked its descent, so it only completed half the process.”
“This means, unless it passes through Su Yan, the Beast cannot descend through any other Black Void.”
“In this sense, though the Beast isn’t completely eradicated, it no longer possesses the ability to invade Earth.”
“And rest assured, just because it wasn’t fully dealt with this time doesn’t mean I’ll let it go. I already have a plan for its final destruction. Soon, I expect to resolve it completely.”
“How will you do that?” The Old Stick pressed.
Gu Chongyan smiled but did not answer, clearly unwilling to reveal more.
The Old Stick’s frown deepened and he seemed about to speak, but Matt quickly interjected, smoothing things over. “Alright, let’s celebrate that we stopped the Beast’s descent.”
“Still, the Hand is waiting for us to deal with them. Having lost the Black Void, they won’t let this go. We need to think carefully about how to handle the Hand.”
“And Su Yan—he can’t stay at my place forever. We need to figure out how to hide him from the Hand. There’s a lot to plan.”
Gu Chongyan said, “Don’t worry, I’ve considered it all. Matt, do you remember Jessica Jones—the private detective?”
“Last time we asked her to photograph Fisk murdering Anatoli. We held back from releasing those photos to restrain the Hand’s influence.”
“But now, Fisk is useless to us. It’s time to send him to prison.”
“You should find Ben Urich from the Daily Bulletin and hand over all information on Fisk to him. He’ll know what to do.”
“Also, Lady Gao—one of the Hand’s leaders—runs a ‘laundry powder’ factory, using blind workers for production and transportation. It’s their main source of funding.”
“Find a way to expose this operation. Taking down the factory cripples one arm of the Hand. With their resources diminished, they won’t stir up trouble in the short term, giving me time to deal with the Beast.”
“As for Su Yan, let him come home with me. If nothing unexpected happens, I should be able to hide him safely.”
He glanced at the Old Stick and said coolly,
“And as for you, old man, if you truly wish to help, let your True Purity Society make some noise—draw the Hand’s attention, buy us some time.”
“If not, suit yourself. As long as you don’t hold us back, I’m grateful enough.”
“So, are there any more questions? If not, I’ll take Su Yan home now,” Gu Chongyan announced.
“Wait,” Matt called, frowning slightly. “You said you’re taking Su Yan home. How will you explain this to your family?”
“Explain? Why bother?” Gu Chongyan replied.
Seeing Matt’s deepening frown, he smiled. “Relax, my family won’t notice him. Don’t forget, I’m a wizard.”
“Su Yan, let’s go.”
With that, Gu Chongyan beckoned to Su Yan and led him out of the factory.
Matt was still unsure, but seeing Gu Chongyan’s confidence, he couldn’t object and comforted himself, trusting his wizard friend to have special means.
In truth, Gu Chongyan’s confidence in bringing Su Yan home—and his certainty that Father Langdon wouldn’t discover him—stemmed from real assurance.
Since arriving in this world, limited by his lack of a wand and weak magic, Gu Chongyan could barely cast any spells besides the Mind-Shield and Patronus Charm.
That was why the Old Stick and Matt had repeatedly doubted his identity and abilities as a wizard.
But from this moment, everything changed.
Having successfully intercepted the Beast’s demonic power, Gu Chongyan’s magic swelled several times over.
The surge of magical energy gave him enough confidence that, even without a wand, he could perform a few simple wandless spells.
Standing downstairs, gazing at the small balcony of the second-floor room, Gu Chongyan smiled at Su Yan.
“Little Su Yan, would you like to try the feeling of flying?”
“What?” Su Yan was confused, not understanding Gu Chongyan’s meaning.
Then Gu Chongyan extended his finger and softly intoned,
“Wingardium Leviosa!”
