Chapter Fifty-Four: Blade Warrior
Compared to Nick Fury, the man before him was clearly far cooler. The dazzling Remington M870 shotgun, a distinct mithril longsword, the 'S'-shaped throwing blade, all paired with a sleek, formidable bulletproof vest and minimalist yet stylish sunglasses perched on his nose. The word "show-off" was practically written across his face. Who else could he be but the famous vampire hunter—Blade?
Yet among those present, aside from Gu Zhongyan, probably no one thought he was putting on airs.
"Blade, it's Blade!" After a brief silence, a voice, trembling with terror, exploded in the bar, and in an instant, chaos erupted.
A group of self-proclaimed proud figures now scattered like frightened rabbits, frantically fleeing in all directions. As the sworn enemy of vampires, Blade showed not a shred of mercy for these bloodthirsty creatures of darkness.
With a wide grin, his row of white teeth gleamed in the shadows. Without hesitation, he cocked his shotgun and fired—a thunderous blast, and a vampire was instantly reduced to ash!
The gun roared again, further inciting both the vampires’ terror and their rage, as well as their desperate will to survive.
At this moment, except for Lilith, who was being held at bay by Gu Zhongyan’s dragonbone wand, every vampire’s gaze was fixed on a single figure—Blade.
After so many battles, this was the first time Gu Zhongyan had been so thoroughly ignored. But that suited him just fine; he was never one to seek the spotlight. Blade’s appearance was a relief—no need for him to exhaust his mind and energy.
After all, he hadn’t expected to encounter vampires tonight. Though magic could harm them, it lacked the targeted efficiency of specialized means.
Sniffing lightly, Gu Zhongyan looked at the terrified Lilith. With a kindly gesture, he nudged her fangs with his wand, guiding her to a corner of the bar and choosing a prime spot to give the vampires and Blade enough room for their confrontation.
"Kill him!"
"Kill him!"
The vampires roared in fury, charging at Blade. Their enhanced bodies moved far faster than ordinary people.
If it were anyone else, facing a mob of dozens of vampires, they might be overwhelmed.
Unfortunately for them, their opponent was Blade—the half-human, half-vampire hunter, who possessed all the strengths of vampires and none of their weaknesses.
Their speed was impressive, but Blade’s was even greater. He fired rapidly, each thunderous shot taking down at least one vampire. Of the dozens who attacked, only a handful managed to get close.
But even those who did found no advantage. Beyond his shotgun, Blade wielded a mithril longsword, equally skilled in both firearms and melee combat, unfazed by close-quarters battle.
Drawing the shining silver blade from his back, he swung it with lightning speed. The sword’s gleam flashed repeatedly, and vampires, one after another, were struck down—howling, burning with crimson light, and crumbling to ash.
There was no help for it; the vampires’ weakness was simply too glaring. Any wound from a silver weapon spelled instant doom.
This was precisely why Gu Zhongyan held such contempt for vampires.
Shotgun, mithril sword, and the ‘S’-shaped throwing blade—fully armed, Blade faced dozens of vampires, creating the illusion of a lone warrior besieging a horde.
Like slicing through vegetables, the vampires never stood a chance.
Watching from the sidelines, Gu Zhongyan enjoyed the spectacle as though witnessing a Hollywood blockbuster up close. When some vampires attempted to flee, he even flicked his wand, cast the Summoning Charm, and sent them tumbling back to Blade’s feet.
Soon, only Lilith remained by Gu Zhongyan’s side—the last vampire in the bar.
Blade turned slowly, his gaze fixing on the corner. He had noticed Gu Zhongyan from the very start. As a half-vampire, he could naturally distinguish between humans and vampires. He sensed that Gu Zhongyan was not his target.
But after seeing Gu Zhongyan perform the Summoning Charm, and observing how he remained so calm and intrigued throughout the carnage, Blade realized that this young man was no ordinary person.
As Blade drew closer, Gu Zhongyan remained unmoved, but Lilith beside him finally broke down.
Having watched dozens of vampire companions die horribly before her eyes, Lilith’s terror peaked. Ignoring the awkward position in which Gu Zhongyan’s wand held her fangs, she thrashed desperately, pleading, “Save me, save me, I beg you, save me. I know you can—just save me, and I’ll do anything you ask.”
Blade’s brow furrowed at her words. He looked at Gu Zhongyan disapprovingly and said in a low voice, “Kid, I don’t know who you are, but let me warn you—vampires and humans do not walk the same path. To them, we’re nothing but food.”
“Never be deceived by their appearance. Beneath it all, they’re bloodthirsty beasts.”
Gu Zhongyan quickly waved his hands, “No, no, you’re mistaken. I have zero interest in vampires. I just noticed something odd about her and came to investigate, that’s all.”
He glanced at Lilith, shaking his head regretfully.
“Miss Lilith, what a pity. If you weren’t a vampire, perhaps we could have had a romantic encounter. But as things stand, I can only thank you for your attention.”
With that, Gu Zhongyan made no attempt to hide his disdain, stepping aside to expose Lilith.
Upon hearing this, Lilith’s eyes widened with even greater terror.
Blade nodded approvingly. “Kid, believe me, you made the right choice.”
He drew the shining mithril sword from his back, poised to bring it down on Lilith.
“No! Save me! Save me—!” Lilith screamed and pleaded desperately.
“Wait!”
Just as Blade was about to strike, Gu Zhongyan suddenly stepped between them.
Blade frowned, his voice low. “Kid, what are you doing? Has this vampire bewitched you?”
Wagging his finger, Gu Zhongyan replied, “First of all, don’t take that elder tone and call me ‘kid.’ My name is Shawn Gu, a wizard. You may call me Shawn.”
“Secondly, while I have no particular liking for vampires, that doesn’t mean I find them uninteresting. I’ve suddenly realized that vampires might make excellent test subjects.”
“So, I’m sorry, but I can’t let you kill her.”
“You think I’ll believe you?” Blade’s face darkened, suspecting that Lilith had indeed enchanted Gu Zhongyan.
With a shrug, Gu Zhongyan said, “Believe it or not, I wasn’t negotiating with you, just informing you. I’m taking Miss Lilith with me. It was a pleasure meeting you. Farewell!”
With a broad grin, he flicked his wand, and in the blink of an eye, both he and Lilith vanished before Blade’s eyes.
