Chapter 96: Sorry, I forgot!

In the end, the old professor made Qin Xuan stand for only ten minutes or so, and that was it. But these two keep causing trouble in his class every time; without a reprimand, what could he do?
Yet he knew Nan Zhiyi. She was such an outstanding student that she would even give up her scholarship for a classmate who needed it more. So he didn’t need to think twice—of course, it had to be Qin Xuan who was dragging her down.
Qin Xuan sat beside Nan Zhiyi with a sour face, glaring inwardly as she still had a faint smile on her lips. Nan Zhiyi, for her part, held his hand as if to comfort him.
It was clear to the old professor that no one stood between them today, and he had clearly seen Nan Zhiyi’s little trick. After all this, could she really be that kind of girl? Then he had misunderstood Qin Xuan. Being one of the oldest teachers, he felt a bit embarrassed and gave Qin Xuan a few extra routine marks.
After class, the old professor tucked his books under his arm and hurried away. He had no idea he had wronged someone again. Nan Zhiyi’s hidden act was too deep, after all.
“Let’s go,” Nan Zhiyi kept holding Qin Xuan’s hand all the way until all the students had left. Only then did he pull away.
But Nan Zhiyi didn’t get up from her chair.
“What’s wrong with you?” Qin Xuan asked, puzzled.
She made a mysterious little gesture. When he sat down again, Nan Zhiyi suddenly threw herself at him and kissed him.
...
After they left campus, Qin Xuan looked at the calm Nan Zhiyi beside him.
“Just wait. Ruoxi will beat you later!”
“She won’t beat me now!” Nan Zhiyi thought angrily of how last time she had told Qin Xuan to Ruoxi and spent a full half-hour sniffing her own socks. They were her own socks, but still.
Now, though, I can cause trouble openly. It’s officially permitted, as if by royal decree!
Still holding Qin Xuan’s hand, Nan Zhiyi got home and at once saw Liu Ruoxi on the sofa.
She quickly handed her the milk tea she had bought on the way.
“Sister Ruoxi, this is my respect to you!”
Liu Ruoxi awkwardly took it. “Why are you so humble? Be more confident!”
Nan Zhiyi straightened herself. “Sister Ruoxi, this is my tribute to you!”
Ruoxi tilted her head, confused: “Is something wrong with you, or with me?”
Then Qin Xuan saw Nan Zhiyi being pulled into Ruoxi’s room.
With a helpless shrug, he returned to his own room and meant to play a game.
Half an hour later, Qin Xuan burst out, rapping “tap, tap, tap” on Qin Liner’s door.
“Come out and see what real battle-royale play looks like!”

Qin Liner was still trying on clothes when Qin Xuan’s knock startled her—she was furious.
She opened the door intending to scold him, then felt a sudden chill across her body.
“Whoa!”
From outside, Qin Xuan could not imagine what on earth she had been wearing.
“Damn it,” Qin Liner said, looking down, then embarrassedly remembered—she had forgotten.
Qin Xuan stared at the closed door, stunned.
He didn’t dare knock again. He turned and left. When Qin Liner opened the door once more, Qin Xuan had vanished.
Biting her lip, she boldly pushed open Qin Xuan’s door. Where was Ruoxi?
“Qin Xuan!” Qin Liner threw herself onto him as he sat there still playing. “You can still be in the middle of a game?”
“It’s on you, not me,” Qin Xuan said innocently, holding her two little hands.
“I don’t care—it’s your fault,” Qin Liner sat on top of him, blocking the screen. By the sounds, he probably hadn’t even defeated a wild monster.
“All right, it’s my fault. Can you get up now?”
“Then shouldn’t you be the one who takes responsibility?”
Not only did she not get up, she even bounced on his lap. Qin Xuan now suspected she had not only deleted something from his computer, but had also looked through it.
“Why, this is just unreasonable,” Qin Xuan said as he grabbed her.
“Hmph.” She pouted and refused to back down, pressing herself against him as if to punish him like Ruoxi would—but she couldn’t break free.
They tugged and resisted for a while. At last, Liu Ruoxi came back and pushed the door open, seeing the whole scene.
“Qin Liner! Are you inviting a beating?” Though she was the one who truly held authority in this house, she was still angry.
The moment Qin Liner saw Ruoxi, she stood up obediently, too afraid to push her luck.
“Go sleep back in your room!” Ruoxi pushed her out and, as she left, even gave her a quick smack on the backside.
Only after Qin Liner left did Ruoxi come back to herself, feeling something was just… off.
Qin Liner stood outside, rubbing her sore cheek—or was it her bottom?—and found it odd.
Back in her own room, she stared at all the dazzling clothes spread across the bed, trying to decide what to wear next.
...
“Are you still playing? I don’t hurt anymore,” said Ruoxi, standing behind Qin Xuan and rubbing his shoulders.
“First, read a little,” Qin Xuan said without turning his head.
“Mm.”
Seeing him like that, Ruoxi lay down alone on the bed and opened her phone. As she looked at it for a while, the memory of the previous night made her feel suddenly warm. She couldn’t resist; she put her hand into the blanket to warm herself.

Qin Xuan had still been trying to choose which runes to load when he heard the sound at his side. He turned and saw Liu Ruoxi biting her lip.
What game was this, anyway?
He didn’t even shut off the computer before he leaped onto the bed.
An hour later, seeing “Top Eight” on the settlement screen, he thought, It wasn’t for nothing—at least this proved something about me.
Ruoxi in his arms had already fallen into a drowsy sleep. Qin Xuan rose and reached to turn off the light.
In the dream, his right arm held Ruoxi. Then, as he looked to his left, he saw Nan Zhiyi. Before he knew it, Qin Liner, in the same clothes as before, walked toward him slowly.
Qin Xuan woke instantly. What a villainous dream.
He reached for the phone on the bedside table—it was just past four.
He had wanted to sleep another little while, but no matter how he lay there, he could not. Thinking about that strange dream, and fearing he might wake Ruoxi, he sat up quietly and leaned against the cushion, his mind like a lump of porridge.
“What’s the matter...?”
Ruoxi, startled by his movement, opened her eyes and saw him sitting there on the cushion, looking gloomy.
“It’s nothing. You keep sleeping. I just can’t sleep,” Qin Xuan said, running a hand through her soft hair.
“Tell me. Are you still keeping things from me?” Ruoxi sat up and leaned into Qin Xuan’s chest. In the dark, it was only the two of them, held close in each other’s arms.
Qin Xuan thought for a moment. Of course—what could a beloved childhood companion hide from him?
He told her about the dream, but not about Qin Liner’s outfit.
Ruoxi listened in silence. She showed no resentment; instead, she squeezed Qin Xuan’s hand even tighter.
“Does this look like your dream now?”
Qin Xuan lowered his head. With his right arm around Ruoxi, it really did resemble the scene from the dream.
“Actually, she told me everything about you and Zhiyi. Everything, including today—no, last night.”
“You…?” Qin Xuan was stunned.
“Fool. I don’t care what happens between you two. As long as I can stay in your arms, that is enough.”
“I used to think you were only mine,” she continued. “But now there is Liner, and there is Zhiyi, who has liked you even longer than I have.”
“I can’t bear to think about the consequences of clinging to you alone. I fear that one day you may leave, like Yang Sheng left Sister Qin, and marry someone else. What would I do then?”
