Chapter One Hundred and Fourteen: Mark 6 New Energy
The particle accelerator installation and calibration were complete. Tony Stark, wearing a tank top and hoisting a large wrench, walked to the midsection of the accelerator and installed a square prism into the conduit.
"Ladies and gentlemen, please put on your sunglasses. Prepare to witness the birth of a miracle!" Tony Stark announced to Wang Jing and the others behind him.
"I've seen bigger miracles than you, so stop talking and get to work!" Wang Jing interrupted Tony's speech at an inopportune moment, urging him on.
"Hey! This is a major moment for me. Do you have any idea what this means to me?" Tony Stark retorted, looking back at Wang Jing with dissatisfaction.
"Fine, fine. Go ahead, I won't bother you anymore!" Wang Jing said, shrugging.
Tony Stark turned back, entered the parameters, and said, "Jarvis, activate the particle accelerator!"
As Tony finished his words, the entire particle accelerator began to roar. As the power increased, the whole machine started to vibrate violently.
"Power has reached maximum!" Jarvis reminded them at the right moment.
Hearing the prompt, Tony Stark immediately began to adjust the prism on the accelerator, but it wouldn't budge because it was too tight. Seeing this, Wang Jing picked up a wrench and stepped forward to help.
With their combined effort, they directed the laser from the particle accelerator onto the triangular vibranium piece directly in front of it. In the process, anything touched by the laser was sliced in two without exception. As the light emitted by the vibranium illuminated the entire laboratory, Tony shut down the accelerator.
Wang Jing patted Tony on the shoulder and offered his congratulations: "Congratulations, you've found a new element and fulfilled your father's legacy!"
After Tony nodded and thanked him, he picked up a pair of tweezers, carefully picked up the glowing new element, and placed it onto the pre-prepared Arc Reactor. As the securing mechanism locked the new element into place, the Arc Reactor lit up with a blue glow and began to run continuously.
"The Arc Reactor is operating normally. I shall begin the tests now!" Jarvis said.
After examining it closely for a moment, Tony Stark picked up the Arc Reactor and said, "If we're going to test it, let's do it thoroughly. Jarvis, bring up the Mark!"
"Sir, I do not advise you to test it while wearing it. The uncertainty is too high," Jarvis warned.
"It's fine. As long as my head is still attached, I can't die!" With that, Tony installed the second-generation Arc Reactor he had crafted into his latest design, the Mark VI.
"But there is a certain probability that it could lead to psychological disorders!" Jarvis cautioned.
"Come on, Jarvis, I'm Iron Man. My will is as hard as iron!" Tony Stark said as he donned the suit. Because of Wang Jing's influence, Tony had designed a suit that could deploy itself a step ahead of schedule.
"Then good luck, sir!"
Tony Stark opened his faceplate and said confidently to Wang Jing, "Watch my performance!" He closed the faceplate and immediately flew out.
After exiting the villa and performing a series of flamboyant maneuvers, he climbed straight upward. Soon, he exceeded thirty thousand meters, and his speed reached three times the speed of sound.
As Tony Stark continued to climb, Jarvis chimed in: "Sir, the Mark VI is not equipped for space flight. If you continue to ascend, you will likely suffer from the effects of cosmic radiation!"
"Tony, you'd better not take this risk. We don't have the technology to treat DNA fragmentation yet!" Wang Jing added immediately after Jarvis.
"Fine, it seems there's still plenty to improve on the suit!" Hearing Wang Jing's words, and having experienced palladium poisoning, Tony began to decelerate.
At this point, the altitude was nearly forty-six thousand meters, and the curvature of the Earth was already visible.
"This is truly beautiful!" Tony Stark exclaimed, looking at the horizon where the Earth met space.
Wang Jing thought of the view of Earth he had seen while mining on the moon and remarked, "It is quite beautiful, though it's not as impressive when looking back at Earth from the moon."
"Then I recommend you see a psychiatrist. Deep-space syndrome is no small matter!" Tony Stark quipped.
"I'll consider it."
By the time Tony returned, it was already evening. "What do you want for dinner tonight?" Tony Stark asked Li Yiyi.
"Steamed king crab, Australian lobster, abalone, and top-tier steak..." Li Yiyi did not hold back, immediately listing a heap of things he liked or had wanted to eat but never had the chance to.
"Why do you like all these things? I thought you'd order hotpot or sweet and crispy chicken," Tony Stark teased.
Just as Tony finished speaking, Jarvis's voice cut in: "Mr. Stark, there is an encrypted call."
"Do you know who it is?" Tony Stark turned back to look at the computer screen.
"Unable to trace, sir!"
"Then put it through."
"Alright, whoever you are, identify yourself!" Tony said the moment the call connected.
"Hello, Stark. How have you been lately?"
A raspy voice came from the other end of the line, and Tony Stark immediately recognized who it was.
"Sounds like you've been doing well too!" After saying this, Tony Stark immediately muted the microphone and ordered Jarvis, "Find him!"
"Yes, sir!"
"The history of the Stark family is about to be rewritten. Everything your father did to our family over the last 40 years, I will make you pay for in the next 40 minutes!" With that, the fake Ivan Vanko hung up.
"I apologize, sir, the tracking is incomplete. I can only confirm he is near Manhattan," Jarvis said.
"Do you know where he is?" Tony Stark asked, looking at Wang Jing.
"I do. But you'd better be concerned about your friend's new product launch right now. Pepper is attending on behalf of the CEO of Stark Industries!" Wang Jing pointed to a poster on the screen regarding Hammer Industries' product launch.
"Damn it!" After cursing under his breath, Tony Stark ran toward the Mark VI suit he had just taken off. After putting it on, Tony said quickly to Wang Jing, "You go take out Ivan Vanko, I'm going to save Pepper!"
With that, Tony Stark flew out at top speed. Because he was going so fast, he couldn't make the turn in time and collided with the wall at the tunnel exit, sending a shower of sparks flying.
Wang Jing looked at Li Yiyi and the others and said, "Remember to save me some late-night snacks." After saying this, Wang Jing put on his own armor and flew out right behind him.
Not long after flying out, Wang Jing traveled back to the main dimension. By this time, the Ivan Vanko that had been cloned over the last half-month was already suited up in a specially crafted Whiplash armor, waiting.
Wang Jing asked Song Guohua, who was nearby, "Are you sure the clone is fine?"
"OK, rest assured, no problems. It's already been tested—the body, intelligence, reaction speed, and the performance of the armor are all guaranteed to be perfect!" Song Guohua patted his chest confidently.
