Chapter 69 Brothers United, Wrecking the Place Together (Please Vote for Us)
“Ling Tian, do you think they’ll call the police?” Lin Youya was feeling a bit apprehensive now; it seemed what they did today might have gone too far.
If the police really did come, it would be enough for a conviction, wouldn’t it? Illegal weapons, assault, destruction of property—and Dai Jin and Yuanbao might even be charged with rape. The thought of all this made Lin Youya’s head ache.
“Don’t worry, they’re all from the underworld. They follow their own rules and want even less to deal with the police than we do,” Ling Tian reassured her. He knew full well that every one of them had committed as many crimes as his own group, if not more, so he wasn’t the least bit worried.
It was just like last time, when they’d injured Shi Xiaocai’s group. If Shi Xiaocai had called the police, both sides would have been arrested. But once you chose this life, you couldn’t go running to the police every time things went wrong.
In this world, what goes around comes around. If they got beaten today, it was only what they deserved.
“But what if they insist on calling the police?” Lin Youya still couldn’t let it go; this was her first time getting involved in something like this, and she really had no idea what to expect.
“If they do, it’s no problem for me. Don’t forget, I just got out of detention yesterday,” Ling Tian chuckled, utterly unconcerned.
So the group swaggered out, went home to change their bloodstained clothes, and made ready for the evening, when they planned to deal with Baldy and Viper.
Lin Youya didn’t eat a thing that night. Just thinking about all that blood and violence made her lose her appetite. She frowned at Ling Tian and said, “Can I not go tonight? I really don’t like all that bloodshed.” She realized she simply wasn’t cut out for that kind of life.
“That’s fine. Shi Xiaocai can stay and protect you and Xiao Mei. I’ll take Dai Jin and Yuanbao,” Ling Tian replied, not wanting to force her. She was a precious princess, after all—her world was far removed from the life of a street thug. But he also didn’t feel comfortable leaving her alone at home, especially now.
Besides, that nightclub was a chaotic mess. Better she didn’t go; with so many people around, if anything happened, they might not be able to protect her.
“No, it’s too dangerous to go without Shi Xiaocai,” Lin Youya protested, not wanting to become a burden to Ling Tian.
“She’s right. Three isn’t enough,” Shi Xiaocai agreed, though he knew protecting Lin Youya was important. Dai Jin and Yuanbao could handle the average guy, but compared to Shi Xiaocai, their fighting skills were far inferior.
“Heh, relax. I just remembered—we have reinforcements.” Ling Tian grinned and picked up his phone.
He could have called his father and had him send their best bodyguards—who were far better than the ones at Lin Youya’s grandfather’s house. But he still wanted to solve his own problems himself.
He called a different group instead. Dialing, he said, “Hello, Zhang Yue? It’s your brother Tian. Meet me at the Dream Jiangnan Nightclub at seven tonight. Bring plenty of people—and bring the gear.”
The friend he called was none other than “Yellow Hair,” real name Zhang Yue, who still spent his days idly drinking, racing cars, and getting into scuffles with his old gang. The moment he heard Ling Tian wanted to do something big, he was thrilled. Ling Tian had always been their leader, and still was.
“Alright, I’ve called up more than a dozen of the old crew. How’s that? Now can you relax?” Ling Tian said proudly, looking at the others.
“You used to have underlings? How good are they?” Dai Jin asked, intrigued—he’d never heard of Ling Tian having so many followers.
“Not bad. We used to race and fight together. Not as good as me or Shi Xiaocai, but better than you two,” Ling Tian said bluntly.
“Hey! What’s that supposed to mean? Yuanbao and I fought off quite a few today. How can you call that just ‘not bad’?” Dai Jin was a little annoyed—he felt like a real hero after today.
“Haha, I was joking. Don’t take it to heart. I’ve got something for you guys tonight—enough to keep you safe,” Ling Tian said with a laugh, heading into his room and coming out with two guns.
Everyone froze. Guns? When did Ling Tian get those? He even had a whole box—more than a dozen.
But the guns really were timely. With a gun in hand, they didn’t have to fear being outnumbered, especially since their opponents were experienced thugs who might also have firearms.
“It’s nothing. They don’t have a name, just a small handgun I modeled after a revolver and made myself. Not too many bullets—fifty each. If you’re a decent shot, it’ll be enough. Even if you’re not, you’ll be able to hit a few people,” Ling Tian explained. The guns were smaller than an ordinary pistol but packed quite a punch.
“Wow! Ling Tian, you’re amazing! You made these yourself?” Shi Xiaocai marveled, turning the gun over in his hands, admiring the craftsmanship.
“You really are a genius. Born for the underworld!” Dai Jin said with open admiration.
“Heh, thanks for the praise. Here, one for each of you. Youya, sweetheart, and Xiao Mei, you two take one for self-defense. If anything happens, don’t hesitate to shoot. Shi Xiaocai, you take one too—it’s much better than a stick in a pinch.” Ling Tian handed out the guns and distributed fifty rounds each.
“Ling Tian, it’s illegal to carry firearms,” Lin Youya hesitated.
“Darling, we’re not going around shooting people. You’re in danger now—this is just for protection. It’s fine, just keep it hidden,” Ling Tian reassured her. He really hadn’t expected her to be so timid—afraid of breaking the law over everything. What a good girl, he thought.
“C’mon, cousin, just take it. Thanks, brother-in-law!” Song Xiaomei happily took the gun, examining it with excitement. She’d always wanted one.
“When did you make these? Where did you do it? This is unbelievable,” Shi Xiaocai still couldn’t believe it.
“After Youya got hurt, I went home, made some parts, and assembled them at the villa. Just finished them a couple of days ago,” Ling Tian replied with a bright smile.
Lin Youya was deeply touched. She hadn’t expected Ling Tian to care for her so much. She didn’t say anything, just smiled at him and carefully tucked the gun away—more than just a weapon, it was a symbol of his affection.
“A real tycoon, huh? Even has a gun workshop at home. Ling Tian, is your father some kind of big crime boss?” Yuanbao suddenly found Ling Tian to be much more mysterious—not just a rich kid, but something else entirely.
“Of course not. My dad’s just a businessman. As for me, I’m a military prodigy—not only can I make handguns, if I have the parts, I could even put together a German MP5 submachine gun!” Ling Tian started bragging—at least, Dai Jin and the others thought he was.
“Yeah, right,” Song Xiaomei scoffed, playing with her gun.
The others burst out laughing, and the atmosphere in the villa relaxed. With Shi Xiaocai and three guns, Lin Youya’s safety seemed assured.
At six thirty that evening, Dai Jin drove the Hummer, with Ling Tian and Yuanbao in tow. In the car were three machetes, three iron rods, and each person carried a handgun. They also brought one hundred thousand yuan in crisp bills—forty thousand with Ling Tian, thirty thousand each for the others.
Looking at the gun in his hand, Ling Tian fell into thought. In his previous life, he’d loved guns from an early age.
When he was little, his toys were all toy guns. As he grew, he moved on to real ones, able to assemble and disassemble weapons with his eyes closed. Later, he could even build replica guns himself. In this life, he hadn’t planned on using guns again, but seeing Lin Youya so frightened that day, he’d gone home and made over a dozen.
He didn’t know if he could live as he wished in this life, but protecting the woman he cared for was something he had to do. Even if it meant crossing paths with people and things from his previous life, he wouldn’t run away. And his grandfather—he’d make time to visit him too. He wondered if his grandfather was heartbroken after his death. In his previous life, he’d died for his country—that, at least, must have been some comfort to the old man.
...
At seven, Dream Jiangnan Nightclub was bustling; cars and people filled the entrance. Judging by their dress and demeanor, these were not people to be trifled with. Clearly, they were Baldy’s men—he had quite a crew.
Zhang Yue and his gang arrived—still with his trademark yellow hair and devil-may-care attitude. Behind him trailed more than a dozen men, all holding sticks. Ling Tian hadn’t provided them with guns, worried these fearless types might actually kill someone.
“Brother Tian!” Yellow Hair greeted Ling Tian enthusiastically, grabbing him in a bear hug.
“How have you and the guys been, Zhang Yue?” Ling Tian was genuinely pleased to see them. Though he hadn’t known them long before leaving for school, the memories of his body’s former life remained, giving him a natural fondness for these guys.
“We’re doing great, just missed you. It was always more fun with you around—especially that time you used money as a weapon. That was awesome!” Zhang Yue’s eyes shone at the memory. He’d practiced for ages after, but couldn’t master it—couldn’t even slice an apple, let alone a person.
“Haha, I’ll teach you another day. Tonight, just follow my lead. Remember, your safety comes first. You’re mainly here to bolster our numbers—the other side has too many people. If there’s a chance, I’ll give you another demonstration.” Ling Tian clapped him on the shoulder, grinning.
He’d thought about using silver needles, but decided against it. He didn’t have enough, and channeling his energy into needles wasn’t necessary—the opponents wouldn’t even know how they’d been hurt. Better to let them see the blood and understand who did it.
“Got it. We’ll do whatever you say, Brother Tian,” Zhang Yue said, excited as always to be with Ling Tian.
“We’ll wait until everyone’s here before going in. Tonight, we’re smashing the place to bits—and taking Baldy, Viper, and the ones who hurt my brothers out of the game for good. After tonight, there’ll be no more Baldy and Viper in this city’s underworld.” Ling Tian’s goal was clear and ruthless.
