Chapter Ninety-Eight: He Was Eaten
Ning Xianyu put the sword away, then stowed the rest of her things as well and went off to find a place to sleep.
She had been busy all day and was nearly exhausted to death. Sleep came first; they still had to travel tomorrow.
As for whether it was the Heaven-and-Earth Sword, she did not care. It was enough to know it was formidable.
Meanwhile, Zhao Kui had already been made into a spectacle by the elders who arrived only after the fact, and they had nearly come to blows over it.
Humiliated and enraged, Zhao Kui stormed off in fury.
After the elders left, Dujuezi discovered that Xuan Yuan Tunhan had gone out.
He thought about it, then quietly followed.
But after walking for a long time, he still could not find Xuan Yuan Tunhan’s aura.
Instead, he sensed something like the presence of the Demon Realm.
“People from the Demon Realm came?” Dujuezi frowned in confusion. Could it be that the ancestor had some collusion with the Demon Realm?
At that moment, Zhutian was standing at the exit, his expression dark as he asked, “Why did you seize the Blood Source Stone last time, exactly?”
Had they caused such a fuss for no reason? Had they all gone mad?
Xuan Yuan Tunhan said coldly, “Move aside. I’m sending him off.”
Zhutian stepped aside, but he followed behind, watching the other man’s back with a frosty gaze.
“This time it’s your grandmaster?”
Xuan Yuan Tunhan said nothing.
Zhutian went on, “One every ten thousand years. There aren’t many left, and there isn’t much time left either.”
Xuan Yuan Tunhan said, “When it’s my turn next, perhaps that will be the end.”
Zhutian snapped, “Whether you die or not is beside the point. You should have died long ago. You know very well there isn’t much time left. Do you think that thing can stay obedient for another ten thousand years?”
He pointed upward. “Have you not noticed that it’s getting bigger, and that the demonic energy in the Demon Realm is growing heavier and heavier?”
Xuan Yuan Tunhan glanced back at him coldly. “Do you have another solution?”
Zhutian was instantly speechless.
Xuan Yuan Tunhan soon reached the Demon Realm. He took out the bottle and removed the stopper.
A human figure emerged from within. It looked at Xuan Yuan Tunhan again, then at the Demon Realm as a whole, and said with visible disgust, “As expected, it’s getting heavier and heavier. This world is finished.”
Xuan Yuan Tunhan said irritably, “Then I’ll trouble Grandmaster to hold on for a few more years.”
Grandmaster sneered. “You’re giving me too much credit, my good grandson.”
After saying that, he stretched his body, smiled up at the sky, then waved a hand. “All right, I’m leaving. Keep up the hard work.”
Then he leapt straight into the air and flew toward the demon star hanging overhead.
Xuan Yuan Tunhan watched his figure grow smaller and smaller until it vanished from sight.
Zhutian watched as well, and saw the demon star suddenly flash once before returning to calm.
After a while, he asked, “He was eaten?”
Xuan Yuan Tunhan whirled around and gave him a fierce glare.
Zhutian was so frightened that his heart jumped. He did not dare say another word.
Xuan Yuan Tunhan asked, “Is the Blood Source Stone all right?”
Zhutian said there was nothing major wrong with it. Apart from being shattered, everything else seemed temporarily fine.
“Oh, right. Who was that woman last time?”
Xuan Yuan Tunhan had been about to leave, but at those words he suddenly stopped and headed toward Zhutian’s palace instead.
Seeing him conceal his figure, Zhutian grew even angrier. “What do you think you’re doing?”
Xuan Yuan Tunhan entered the palace and searched through it for a while, taking away many things before leaving directly.
Zhutian was slow on his feet. By the time he chased after him, the palace had already been stripped bare.
Standing in the empty room, he found that even the newly replaced bed was gone. Seething, he took several deep breaths.
Was Xuan Yuan Tunhan, that old bastard, finally letting himself run wild because he thought the world was doomed anyway?
“What the hell?”
Ning Xianyu slept very well in the big demon’s palace, but the next day, before she had even woken properly, she was dragged up to continue the journey.
So long as no one woke her, she usually slept until she woke naturally. Ever since she started following the big demon, she had not once had a decent night’s sleep.
Sigh, the fate of a wage earner really was miserable.
Ning Xianyu forced herself upright and sat on the flying magical artifact, her head bobbing up and down.
Just as she was dozing off, something suddenly struck her on the head.
Then came a second blow, then a third. Crash, a pile of things came tumbling down onto her head and buried her beneath them.
Ning Xianyu clawed her way out and turned to look at the culprit with a grievance-filled expression.
“Ancestor, what’s wrong?”
Why was he throwing things at her?
Xuan Yuan Tunhan did not even spare her a glance. “For you.”
Looking at his lofty, superior manner, Ning Xianyu felt that this was less a gift than a favor bestowed.
That look of his seemed to be saying he expected her to kneel, knock her head to the ground in gratitude, and say, Thank you for your great kindness, Ancestor.
[The big demon lord changed his temperament?]
Why was he giving her so many things?
The system said, [No idea. They’re all good things. Since he’s giving them to you, just take them. Free loot is free loot.]
[Right, free loot is free loot.]
Ning Xianyu hurriedly thanked him and stuffed everything into her storage bag in one go.
Hehe. They were all good things. There was food, there were useful items, and every single one of them was of excellent quality and rich in spiritual energy.
As expected of the big demon lord. A rich man.
Ning Xianyu was now fully aware of the joy of clinging to a powerful patron.
Xuan Yuan Tunhan sat off to the side, watching her frantically shove everything into her storage bag, and somehow felt that she resembled some kind of animal. He just could not remember which one.
[Host, you’re like a squirrel storing up food for winter.]
Ning Xianyu said, [A squirrel it is, then. Believe me if I say I can bite you?]
She picked up a fruit, shoved it into her mouth, and began gnawing on it. In no time at all she had finished one, then immediately started on a second.
The system said, [Hah. You can’t bite me anyway.]
[Then my next wish is to turn you into a little hamster. No, a little rabbit. If I’m in a bad mood, I’ll stew you. Hahaha.]
Ning Xianyu made a note of that wish, thinking she would definitely have to give it a try next time.
The system was so angry it refused to talk to her, lest it die of rage.
Xuan Yuan Tunhan listened to the two of them bickering pointlessly as usual, and still could not make any sense of their conversation.
This woman was the variable. How would she change?
So pampered, so lazy, unwilling even to cultivate, knowing only how to eat, drink, and play.
He had no idea whether the stone monument at Ten Directions Mountain would reveal anything.
They traveled on like this for five or six days. The sun had so thoroughly baked Ning Xianyu that she was beginning to suspect she would turn dark, when at last they arrived near Ten Directions Mountain.
Ning Xianyu had assumed that, with such a serious-sounding name, Ten Directions Mountain would be a very square, very proper mountain. Yet when she got there, she was astonished.
What kind of Ten Directions Mountain was this? It looked more like the mud specks Nuwa had flung off while creating mankind that had somehow come to life.
“Is this really Ten Directions Mountain?”
Its shape was far too distinctive.
Within a radius of hundreds of li, the land was filled with countless little mountain peaks, each like a thorn. Some were linked in continuous ridges, while others stood alone. One glance was enough to make the skin crawl.
Xuan Yuan Tunhan did not pay her any mind, but the system confirmed that this was indeed Ten Directions Mountain.
[Stop doubting it. This is Ten Directions Mountain. They say some mighty figure once comprehended the Dao here in a single night and ascended from this place, so it was named Ten Directions Mountain.]
Ning Xianyu still did not understand. [What does some mighty figure ascending have to do with ten directions?]
That explanation had not clarified anything at all. She still did not get it.
The system exploded in frustration. [How should I know? That’s just how the author explained it. If you’re so capable, go ask the author.]
Honestly. When the author named things, it was probably just random. Who needed such an elaborate explanation? Who cared?
Ning Xianyu retorted in anger, [Move the rabbit wish farther back. My next wish is to drag the author in here and make them my servant.]
That rotten author had nearly killed her.
