Yi Tianling held the black horn, looking at the two of them.

“Are you sure this can really open it?”

Ning Xianyu eyed his uncertain demeanor, suspecting he was lying. He seemed to know that this token could open the passage, but he deliberately kept silent, hiding the truth.

[System, is he deceiving us?]

The system gave no reply, and since Ning Xianyu was used to talking to herself, she paid it no mind.

Xuan Yuan Tunhan spoke with certainty. “This is a horn from the royal family of the Demon Realm. Your friend must be related to them.”

What?

Yi Tianling was surprised, growing even more uneasy. He clearly knew his confidante was the Saintess of the Demon Realm, yet he never spoke the truth, letting Xuan Yuan Tunhan and Ning Xianyu believe she was an ordinary demon.

This was truly—

[Worthless. Always scheming. If the Demon Lord weren’t so powerful, he’d have been done in by him.]

Before, she thought the protagonist was simply slow-witted, now she realized he was downright bad—unaware of his own cunning.

Her emotions were never easy to contain; thinking this, she glared at Yi Tianling, making him even more self-conscious.

She was so busy glaring she didn’t notice Xuan Yuan Tunhan cast her a glance, his expression oddly delighted. Yet that delight vanished as quickly as it appeared, and Xuan Yuan Tunhan’s face turned cold. “Your friend must have taught you how to enter the Demon Realm. Stop hiding it. The villagers can’t wait much longer.”

Yi Tianling gave an awkward smile and, swallowing his nerves, took out the horn and recited the incantation to open the passage.

Soon, a swirling vortex formed around the black horn, spreading in the air. Looking through it, they saw a long, winding tunnel leading who knew where.

Ning Xianyu couldn’t resist running to the other side to look—it was the same, a tunnel just like the first.

Was this some higher-dimensional space? The special effects could at least cost five coins.

Xuan Yuan Tunhan grabbed her, pulling her directly into the passage.

Inside, the noise was deafening, waves of heat buffeting them. Ning Xianyu felt her clothes might catch fire and shouted, “Is there anything I need to watch out for in the Demon Realm?”

Xuan Yuan Tunhan replied, “Stay close. Don’t wander. I have no wish to collect your corpse.”

Yi Tianling followed behind, heat assaulting him as well. Seeing the two walking so closely, he couldn’t help but give them the approving look of a die-hard romantic.

They walked through the passage for who knew how long, until it abruptly vanished.

Ning Xianyu believed the passage must have warped time and space; normal measures of time didn’t apply inside.

Upon emerging, she still felt dizzy, stumbling before righting herself.

She was about to rejoice when a loud thud sounded beside her.

Startled, she turned to see Xuan Yuan Tunhan had fallen.

He quickly sat upright, knees bent on the ground.

Behind them, Yi Tianling also tumbled out, struggling before finally standing.

Ning Xianyu hurried to steady the Demon Lord. “Ancestor, are you alright?”

She hadn’t fallen, yet the Demon Lord had. What kind of strange occurrence was this?

Xuan Yuan Tunhan shook his head, drew a pill from his storage pouch and swallowed it, then hung something around his neck. Like a magic trick, he instantly reverted to his strong, cold demeanor.

“I’m fine.”

Though his words were as concise as ever, Ning Xianyu sensed his exhaustion.

The system had said Xuan Yuan Tunhan was human too, and could tire.

Since meeting her, he had scarcely rested, always busy.

The Demon Realm differed from the Immortal Realm; its spiritual energy was wild and difficult to absorb, even affecting cultivators’ bodies.

Xuan Yuan Tunhan, his spirit worn, still dragged her in her mere Qi Refining stage body through the Demon Realm’s hardships. Just thinking of it made her feel tired.

A wave of guilt washed over Ning Xianyu.

If not for her, he wouldn’t have suffered so.

[I think I really did wrong. My mother always said not to burden others, I…]

Guilt surged within her; she felt she ought to do something.

“Come on, don’t fall behind. Don’t use my body for anything, or I’ll crush you.”

Ning Xianyu had just been feeling remorseful, but Xuan Yuan Tunhan’s cold words doused her completely.

[I’m not guilty anymore. Serves him right!]

Hmph, infuriating. She’d wanted to sympathize—never mind, he clearly didn’t need it.

Xuan Yuan Tunhan walked ahead, a faint smile appearing on his weary face.

Stubborn and sharp-tongued—ha, that’s her true nature.

The three entered the Demon Realm. Ning Xianyu and Yi Tianling were utterly confused, never having been here before. Looking around at the black and red landscape, they felt uneasy.

The Demon Realm was nothing like the human world. Its sky wasn’t pure blue, but a strange red, as if stained with blood.

Ning Xianyu looked up and discovered there were two suns: one ordinary, the other fiery red, large and dazzling.

Beside the fiery red sun, the ordinary sun appeared small and dim.

Impossible—weren’t both realms on the same planet? How could there be two suns?

Had they been transported to outer space?

She wanted to ask the system, but it was off somewhere loafing, giving no answer.

Curious, she stared at the sky, suddenly feeling chills, hugging her arms and shivering.

Something was off—she sensed she was being watched.

At that moment, Xuan Yuan Tunhan’s brows twitched. He pointed to the fiery red sun. “That’s the Heavenly Demon Star. It’s a monster, not a sun.”

Ning Xianyu and Yi Tianling were shocked. “A monster?”

“That huge?”

Xuan Yuan Tunhan said, “Legend has it, it came from another world. What we see now is its egg. The Demon Realm was once just like the Human and Immortal Realms, no different. The Demon Realm didn’t exist.”

“One day, a shower of meteors crashed down, shattering the lands beyond the Southern Domain. Wildfires burned for a hundred years, and when they finally died out, the place was left a scorched wasteland.”

Such ancient tales were chilling enough to hear, let alone experience.

Xuan Yuan Tunhan continued, “Even now, fires still burn here, never fully extinguished. Eventually, people noticed an extra sun in the sky. Some tried to reach it, hoping to destroy or remove it, but all failed.”

“Later, it was discovered it wasn’t a sun, nor a rock—it was an egg. No one knows what kind of creature’s egg.”

After hearing this, Ning Xianyu looked up at the egg with a new suspicion. Was the gaze she felt coming from it?

She glanced at Xuan Yuan Tunhan and Yi Tianling; neither seemed to sense anything unusual.

Ning Xianyu asked, “If that egg hatches, what happens?”

Xuan Yuan Tunhan replied coldly, “The heavens will collapse, the six realms will perish.”

Hiss!
