Chapter 113: The Wolf
“Eh~~ We need to report this to the authorities! Their chicken drumsticks are poisoned!” Fubao and her little best friend were crying pitifully.
“Alright, calm down. The chicken drumsticks are fine; you two just ate too much and got an upset stomach!” Gu Li said helplessly, tugging the robe draped over Fubao. He sighed deeply. Such a handful! Thankfully, he had bought medicine overnight and given it to them early.
They walked with frequent stops, and the scenery along the way was quite pleasant. However, every time they entered the forest, trouble seemed to follow. For example: “Ahhh! Help! I told Xiaobai not to pee around recklessly! Don’t you know this is someone’s territory? Ah!” At that moment, Fubao was darting through the woods clutching a rabbit. She had only gone out to use the restroom, but in this remote wilderness, there were no facilities, so she had to walk a bit farther.
Unexpectedly, Xiaobai followed her and ended up leading a wolf back to her.
“You darn rabbit! You’re going to get me killed!” Fubao ran through the forest holding the plump rabbit, with a large grey wolf hot on her heels.
Panting, Fubao looked down at Xiaobai, who glanced at her and then at the pursuing wolf with a flash of determination in its eyes. Suddenly, the fat rabbit wriggled free from Fubao’s arms and dashed off in the opposite direction.
“Xiaobai, what are you doing? Come back!” Fubao shouted as she ran after the rabbit.
The rabbit defiantly flicked its tail at the big grey wolf: “Come on, then!”
But the wolf stopped, tilted its head, looked at the fat rabbit, then at Fubao, glanced left and right, and made up its mind.
With a swift movement, it charged at Fubao: “This one’s got more meat!”
“Fubao!!! Oh my god!!”
The rabbit? Why wasn’t the wolf chasing it?
“Ahhh! Help!” Fubao was about to cry in fright—this was terrifying!
Her scream carried far, and Gu Li and the others heard it. Gu Yun grabbed his bow and dashed toward the source of the cry.
After a while—
“Fubao, are you okay?” Gu Li saw Fubao cautiously standing near the edge of a deep pit.
“I’m fine. Why are you all here?” Fubao asked curiously.
Gu Li: You screamed so terribly, I thought something happened to you.
“Baole, are you hurt?” Miss Chen from the Chen family squeezed through the crowd and took Fubao’s hand.
“No, no, just chased by a wolf for a bit!”
Everyone was speechless.
“What did you say?” Gu Li asked loudly.
“Ah, my ears,” Fubao complained.
“Speak properly! Are you hurt? Where’s the wolf?” Gu Li pulled Fubao aside to look her over.
“Oh, it’s nothing, Brother Li,” Fubao patted Gu Li’s shoulder.
Gu Li thought: Oh! Now he’s Li Gu! That stubborn girl!
“That’s good, that’s good,” Gu Li breathed a sigh of relief.
“Eh~ Brother Gu, why are you so worried when Baole is hurt?” Miss Chen asked, puzzled.
“Well… you’re girls, so of course we have to protect you!”
“Exactly, exactly!” Gong Shaoyu chimed in.
“Oh.”
“Eh~ Where did Brother Gu go?” Miss Chen had just seen Gu Yun here, but in the blink of an eye, he was gone.
Just then, a dead wolf suddenly flew out of the huge pit in front of them!
The three stood there, stunned.
Then Gu Yun sprang out of the pit in a flash.
Great, fresh wild meat!
But—
“Did we forget someone?”
“Who?”
“Ah!”
“Master!!!” The five of them suddenly realized—there’s a wolf, and the master is alone…
Gong Shaoyu dashed off far ahead. “Master!!!”
“Let’s go, Master Yu is in trouble!”
The others hurried after him. Gu Yun carried the wolf on his back.
Not a bad haul!
Gu Li ran behind, holding Fubao with one hand and the rabbit with the other.
Miss Chen wondered silently: Why can he hold Fubao but not me???
Nearby, the group saw Gong Shaoyu trembling and hiding behind a big tree, his tail tucked between his legs, shaking uncontrollably.
