Chapter Forty-One: The Fairy Garden
With a thousand units of wood, ten of each kind of flower, plus a watering can and blueprints, assembling the materials for building the garden was effortless.
Wolf, the werewolf, hadn’t had enough time to recover to his optimal state, so he nervously found himself dragged once again by his master into the forest.
As soon as they stepped among the trees, the same tree spirit from earlier appeared, advancing toward them with furious intent. Judging by its demeanor, it was determined to eliminate these two intruders once and for all.
“Wait!” Just as the tree spirit charged before them and Wolf tensed for combat, Jia Zhengjin suddenly called out loudly, “Can you let me say a few words first?”
Miraculously, the tree spirit actually stopped, standing in place and watching him.
“Wow, it understands spoken language!” Jia Zhengjin turned to Wolf in surprise.
“Tree spirits communicate via telepathy, so they sense your thoughts directly rather than understanding your words. Of course, if you want to interpret it that way, it’s not wrong; from a certain perspective, you could say it understands you,” Wolf explained.
“Whatever works!” Jia Zhengjin laughed, stepping forward to stand before the tree spirit. “Please, don’t attack. I apologize for what happened earlier! I had no other choice—those undead armies were chasing me relentlessly, and I ran out of options. I’m truly sorry for the harm I caused. I don’t wish to be your enemy. Could you give me a chance? I can build a beautiful garden villa for the forest fairies—I promise it will delight you!”
“Will that actually work?” Wolf asked anxiously from the side.
“Trust me!” Jia Zhengjin replied with confidence.
The tree spirit, understanding Jia Zhengjin’s intent via telepathy, paused and extended two vine-like arms into the earth.
“What’s it doing?” Jia Zhengjin asked, intrigued.
“Communicating with the forest fairies,” Wolf replied. “It’s their unique method of contact.”
“Wow, that seems so advanced!”
The tree spirit relayed Jia Zhengjin’s message to the fairies, and soon received a response. The forest fairies decided to observe his sincerity before deciding whether to forgive him.
There was no movement of the tree spirit’s mouth, nor any sound, but Jia Zhengjin suddenly received a message directly in his mind, startling him greatly.
Since the fairies wished to see proof of his sincerity, Jia Zhengjin wasted no time. If he delayed, all the skeleton ashes would soon disappear!
He quickly selected a clearing, used the blueprint, and spent the materials from his pack. In an instant, a beautiful garden appeared under the moonlight. Flowers of countless varieties bloomed within, and their fragrance filled the air, intoxicating all who entered.
Just as the garden was completed, a myriad of green lights streaked across the sky and gathered in the garden’s center.
The forest fairies approached cautiously at first, then with delight as they discovered the garden was real. Within grew countless flowers from Earth—wonders unknown in this world! They were amazed and thrilled, especially by the exotic scents wafting through the air, which brought them immense joy.
The tree spirit slowly retreated into the forest, its roots sinking back into the ground, soon becoming an utterly ordinary tree.
[Message] A tribe of forest fairies wishes to build a settlement in your garden. Do you agree?
Of course he agreed! That was Jia Zhengjin’s intention all along, and he immediately confirmed.
The fairies danced merrily within the garden, each choosing a flower from Earth to their liking and beginning to build their flower-houses.
“So beautiful…” Watching the fairies flit through the blossoms like butterflies, Jia Zhengjin’s face showed a look of enchantment.
[Message] The garden has successfully upgraded to Fairy Garden!
[Fairy Garden] This is the residence of forest fairies, producing a bottle of delicious honey every day as rent to the garden’s owner.
“That sounds pretty good!” Jia Zhengjin was delighted. “Does this mean the fairies have forgiven me? Can I enter the forest now to collect my spoils?”
“That should be the case!” Wolf looked at his master in astonishment, never expecting him to truly win the fairies’ forgiveness—and to have them settle in the garden he’d built.
It made sense, though. Common flowers from Earth, like roses and peonies, were utterly unique in this world. To the fairies, every blossom in the garden was a miracle they had never seen or smelled. For flower-loving forest fairies, this was a dream home beyond compare.
Now Jia Zhengjin entered the forest with his torch, and the tree spirit no longer blocked his path.
He picked up the pace, and with Wolf guarding him, first found the ashes of the triceratops skeleton.
[Message] You have obtained a Triceratops Saddle!
[Message] You have obtained a Perfect Iron Shield!
[Message] You have obtained a Perfect Sandalwood Necklace!
[Message] You have obtained a Resource Exchange blueprint!
[Message] You have obtained a recipe book for Fish-Fragrant Shredded Pork!
[Triceratops Saddle] When you tame a triceratops, installing this saddle increases mount attributes and makes riding easier.
[Perfect Iron Shield] Defense 11; reduces physical damage by 10%.
[Perfect Sandalwood Necklace] Intelligence +7; enhances water magic power by 10%.
[Resource Exchange Blueprint] Allows construction of a resource exchange, enabling you to purchase resources at any time with gold, or trade resources with others.
[Fish-Fragrant Shredded Pork Recipe Book] Upon learning, you gain the skill to cook Fish-Fragrant Shredded Pork.
As expected, the triceratops skeleton yielded excellent items!
Jia Zhengjin was overjoyed.
Now that the werewolf had been summoned, it would only take a day to upgrade the beast pen to level 2. Then he could capture a triceratops as a mount, and roam the forest with even greater confidence!
The Perfect Iron Shield, boasting 11 points of defense and 10% reduction in physical damage, was a treasure that immediately replaced his inferior shield.
The sandalwood necklace enhanced water magic, which was a pity, since Tina currently only knew Fireball. But the +7 intelligence would significantly boost Tina's combat power.
As for the resource exchange, it was just as its name implied—a place to trade various resources. For Jia Zhengjin, this was an invaluable building! Many rare resources were hard to mine, and sometimes he urgently needed certain materials. Now, he could use other resources to trade for what he lacked.
And the Fish-Fragrant Shredded Pork recipe book was something he needed as well. Eating grilled fish, roast meat, boiled fish, and boiled meat every day could get tiresome. With this skill, he could finally enjoy a feast!
