Chapter 121: The Work of a Priest
Christina’s heart shattered even more upon learning the truth. It was one thing for Alex to use her as a shield in a moment of danger, but she never expected that the words that had once moved her so deeply were all lies.
“Eat!” Perrin placed the food in front of her.
“What is this?” Christina had been rigorously trained by the Church of Light since childhood, accustomed only to the simple fare of bread and water.
“Honey-glazed meat and nectar drink,” Perrin replied calmly.
Christina stared at the food for a moment before raising her head and asking, “Could I have a piece of bread and a cup of water instead?”
“There isn’t any,” Perrin said expressionlessly.
“I never eat anything but bread and water,” Christina insisted.
“No wonder you’re malnourished!” a man’s voice rang out from outside the cell.
“Lord Keene!” Perrin turned around respectfully to greet him.
Jia Zhengjin entered the cell, glanced at Christina, and said, “You’re a prisoner of war now, no right to make demands! Eat your breakfast and then get to work.”
Nervously, Christina looked up at the handsome youth with golden hair before her. He appeared ordinary at first glance, but who would have thought he had the power to subjugate a dragon? In his presence, Christina felt a formidable pressure unlike anything she had ever sensed from her revered teachers or even the lord of Light City.
She quickly recalled that this was the first battle of her life—and she had lost, becoming a prisoner.
“What are you waiting for? Eat quickly!” Jia Zhengjin said sternly.
Christina felt wronged. She was the direct disciple of Master Leo, respected within the Church. Even the exalted lord of the city would not speak to her in such a tone. Moreover, her diet had always been fixed. Master Leo belonged to the ascetic faction of priests; as his disciple, Christina naturally followed the same path.
Yet under Jia Zhengjin’s indifferent gaze, she had no choice but to comply.
Silently, she prayed, “May the God of Light forgive my sins!” Then, hesitantly, she brought a piece of honey-glazed meat to her lips and took a small bite.
An unimaginable sweetness and aroma exploded in her mouth, instantly intoxicating Christina, who had only ever known the bland taste of bread and water. In her heart, she silently repented before the God of Light and her master, then delicately savored the meat bite by bite.
After swallowing a large piece, a hint of regret flickered in her eyes. But when she took a sip of the nectar drink, a more joyful expression blossomed on her face.
Though the food was delicious, could it really be that extraordinary?
Watching the female priest’s blissful expression, Jia Zhengjin felt somewhat speechless. Others might find the food exceptionally tasty, but no one would display such an expression as if they were enjoying the entire world.
“Once you finish eating, get out and work!” Jia Zhengjin said, then turned and left the cell.
Prompted by Perrin, Christina nervously stepped out of the cell.
Jia Zhengjin walked straight toward the city outskirts, with Christina following in small, quick steps and Perrin close behind.
Fear filled Christina’s heart; she had no idea what awaited her.
Jia Zhengjin led her to a newly constructed prison, where General Zorma and all surviving city guards were confined. Of course, Alex, who had failed to escape this time, was also inside.
“Are they going to lock me up here too?” Christina thought, but she didn’t feel anything amiss—after all, these were her comrades.
However, Jia Zhengjin only took her to a separate cell and opened the door.
“General Zorma!” Christina saw a burly man whose hands were bloodied and severely injured, his entire body tightly bound by numerous sturdy iron chains.
“Christina, has he treated you badly?” General Zorma asked anxiously upon seeing the female priest.
“Her name is Christina?” Jia Zhengjin glanced at the priest.
Christina gently shook her head.
“Hey!” General Zorma sighed in relief, then looked at Jia Zhengjin. “Foreigner, I hereby challenge you in the name of the God of War!”
“The challenge can wait,” Jia Zhengjin said, turning his gaze to Christina. “Hey, priest, heal him.”
“What?” Christina was surprised by the request.
General Zorma was equally astonished.
“I’m telling you to heal him—isn’t that your duty as a priest?” Jia Zhengjin said coldly. “Hurry up. More injured city guards need your treatment.”
“Foreigner, what are you thinking?” General Zorma asked Jia Zhengjin. If his hand injuries were healed, he might break the chains and escape the prison. Didn’t Jia Zhengjin fear this?
No, since he could subdue a dragon, he must not fear me, thought Zorma. Perhaps I’m overthinking it. But since he mentioned a duel, I must witness just how powerful this legendary dragon really is!
Though puzzled, Christina was eager to treat General Zorma and the injured guards. Yet without her wand, she couldn’t perform at full strength.
“May I have my magic wand back? Healing without it is much less effective…”
“Here.” Jia Zhengjin casually pulled her wand from a virtual backpack.
Space magic? No, she could not sense the slightest magical aura from it! Perhaps his strength had reached a level where magic energy was undetectable—a realm only gods could attain. Since he could conquer a dragon, his power might indeed rival that of a deity. How old was he? Surely not as young as he appeared. Could he be a survivor from the ancient age of gods?
Christina took back her wand, her mind swirling with confusion.
General Zorma was also stunned by Jia Zhengjin’s move. Such formidable space magic—if he acted personally, Zorma might be instantly disintegrated. Good heavens! He’d rather be devoured by a dragon than have his body and soul torn apart amid spatial distortions; that would be unbearably agonizing…
Christina cast a healing spell on General Zorma. The radiant power of light swiftly mended the gruesome wounds on his hands. The dried blood and scabs vanished rapidly, and before long, there was no trace of injury.
“Good. Now treat the other wounded!” Jia Zhengjin left the cell and brought Christina to another area. Dog-headed soldiers immediately carried the injured city guards from their cells and lined them up.
Christina glanced at Jia Zhengjin, then began methodically healing them one by one with her restorative magic.
