Chapter 33: The Invitation
“Driver, is there something on my face?” Li Chuxi raised an eyebrow and asked calmly. “I’ve noticed you keep looking at me.”
The driver seemed a little embarrassed and hurriedly explained, “Young lady, you just look very familiar, so I took a couple of extra glances. Are you a celebrity?”
“Oh? Why do you think I’m a celebrity?” Li Chuxi asked with a smile. “Or perhaps I just have an ordinary face that blends in with the crowd?”
“You’re joking, young lady.” The driver shook his head. “If a girl as beautiful as you has an ordinary face, then where would that leave the rest of us? By the way, you still haven’t answered my question!”
“I suppose I am,” Li Chuxi replied after a moment’s thought. “Though I’m probably the sort who isn’t particularly famous.”
“That’s all right.” The driver smiled warmly. “A girl as beautiful as you will definitely become famous. Don’t lose heart. Life is always full of hope!”
Li Chuxi smiled but said nothing.
“Young lady, I’m serious.” The driver continued chatting away. “If my daughter saw you, she’d definitely become your fan. She likes beautiful people more than anything.”
At this point, his voice took on a note of pride. “But she once told me that, in her heart, the most handsome man in the world is her father.”
Hearing this, Li Chuxi could not help laughing. “Big brother, you and your daughter must be very close.”
“Of course!”
Whenever he spoke of his daughter, the driver grew gentler. “She’s my precious little girl.”
Watching his expression, Li Chuxi could not help feeling envious, even though she had long since stopped caring about a father’s love. “Your daughter has a wonderful father.”
“And she is the best daughter,” the driver replied as though it were the most natural thing in the world.
Li Chuxi smiled and said no more.
Throughout the journey, the driver kept talking to her, and naturally, most of the conversation centered on the daughter he loved dearly.
Li Chuxi did not find it tiresome. Listening to the amusing stories he told, she actually found it rather entertaining.
When they reached their destination, the driver still seemed reluctant to end the conversation. He handed Li Chuxi a business card. “Young lady, this has my contact information. If you need a ride again, you can call me. Here, take it.”
Li Chuxi accepted the card without hesitation. “Thank you, big brother.”
After returning to her apartment, Li Chuxi had barely sat down when she received a call from Old Master Li.
Clearly, Old Madam Li had already told him everything that had just happened.
After offering Li Chuxi a few words of comfort, he came straight to the point. “Xixi, do you have time to come over tomorrow? It’s been a long time since you last visited your grandmother.”
Li Chuxi did not refuse Old Master Li’s invitation.
Since returning, she had not yet gone to visit either Old Master Li or Old Madam Li. In the past, the two elderly people had always cared deeply for her, and the rest of the Li family had treated her with equal affection. She should have paid them a visit long ago; she simply had not found the time.
Now that Old Master Li had personally invited her, refusing would hardly be appropriate.
Besides, she had a feeling that this invitation was probably connected to what had happened that day.
