Chapter Thirty-Two: DNA Testing
Li Chuxi paid no mind to Li Kunjie’s accusations. She offered a faint smile and replied, "How is it considered 'making a scene' when I am merely retrieving what is mine and reclaiming my own money?"
"If you are all truly so generous, then why not hand over all the property under your names to me? After all, you seem to think this is such a trivial matter, don't you?"
"Li Chuxi, don't you dare make such outrageous demands here," Li Kunjie snapped, his anger mounting. "What right do you have to claim our things?"
"That is true," Li Chuxi nodded in agreement. "I certainly have no right to take what belongs to you, but I do have every right to take back what belongs to me."
"Rest assured, I am only taking what is rightfully mine. As for the things you gifted me, I haven't taken a single one of them."
"Chuxi, you—" Li Fenmei looked at her, her eyes filled with probing uncertainty. "What do you mean by that?"
"You know exactly what I mean."
Li Chuxi smiled, then gathered her belongings and walked out of the villa, paying no heed to the others whose faces were darkening by the second.
Behind her, Li Xuehui seemed to be saying something to soothe Li Kunjie and Li Fenmei, but the words were already indistinct. Regardless, it was no longer any of her concern.
Once she sat in the taxi, Li Chuxi couldn't help but feel a headache coming on, as Ling Ling Yao started clamoring in her mind again.
"Host, your parents are truly despicable! It’s bad enough that they are cruel, but to think they would actually help that Li Xuehui try to steal your belongings!" Ling Ling Yao’s tone was filled with righteous indignation. "Having parents like that is worse than having none at all!"
Sensing it might have misspoken, the system quickly tried to remedy the situation. "No, Host, that’s not what I meant. I just... I just feel that they really don't treat you like their own daughter at all."
"Oh," Li Chuxi replied indifferently, her expression remaining unchanged.
"Um, Host," Ling Ling Yao asked cautiously, "have you ever suspected, perhaps, that you might not be their biological daughter after all?"
After all, it was rare to see people treat a foster daughter so much better than their own flesh and blood—unless, of course, the daughter wasn't actually theirs.
"They are my biological parents."
Li Chuxi’s tone was flat, stating a simple fact.
"Oh?" Ling Ling Yao was curious and instinctively asked, "How can you be so sure?"
"I had a DNA test done."
Long before the car accident, she had already conducted a DNA test. While she hadn't possessed much power back then, such a small matter was within her reach. At the time, she had truly hoped she wasn't their biological daughter. Unexpectedly, reality dealt her a harsh blow.
For a moment, Ling Ling Yao didn't know whether it should comfort Li Chuxi or how to go about it, so it simply fell silent.
The taxi driver glanced at Li Chuxi in the rearview mirror from time to time, his eyes filled with curiosity. It was his first time driving such a beautiful young woman, and she looked vaguely familiar, though he couldn't quite place where he had seen her before.
However, the girl had been silent since getting into the car, lost in her own thoughts. He felt it wasn't his place to speak, so he remained quiet as well. The atmosphere inside the car grew increasingly still.
