Chapter Thirty-One: Shadows of the Arctic
The Arctic: a desolate expanse of ice and snow, frozen, barren, and devoid of life. Yet, beneath these vast, sprawling glaciers, a clandestine data center hummed in silence. Its flickering indicator lights, reflected against the reinforced concrete encased in ice, appeared both eerie and cold.
"Target confirmed: Arctic Relay Station."
Xu Yunchuan stood before the holographic map at Global Command, his gaze icy.
Zhao Ming looked up, his face pale but resolute. "They have established a quantum data relay station there, leveraging the extreme cold of the polar environment and stable satellite signals to conduct large-scale cyberattacks and data transmissions. This is the core source of their offensive."
"We must destroy it," Shen Qingwan whispered, "otherwise, all global defense reinforcements will be rendered meaningless."
"We have no choice. Initiate the operation," Xu Yunchuan said, his voice deep and firm.

Operation Icefield
Hours later, a task force composed of international security forces and technical experts descended silently onto the Arctic ice sheet aboard two stealth transport aircraft.
Howling winds bit into them; the cold was bone-chilling. Clad in heavy cold-weather gear, the team advanced with measured, heavy steps.
Guided by satellite positioning, Zhao Ming directed the team: "The target is three kilometers ahead, fifty meters underground. The enemy must have established layers of defenses."
"Prepare for combat," Xu Yunchuan said over the comms. "We cannot afford to fail this time."
---
The Hidden Fortress
Upon reaching the target area, the task force discovered an entrance disguised as a glacial crevice. The opening was sealed by a heavy steel door, surrounded by infrared sensors and automated weapon systems.
"Zhao Ming, can you disable these defensive systems?" the task force leader asked in a low voice.
Zhao Ming’s voice crackled through the earpiece: "I am attempting to hijack their control system, but it will take time."
Time was a luxury they did not have. The leader gestured with his hand: "Split into groups. Team One, provide cover. Team Two, prepare for demolition."
Explosives were carefully placed around the steel door. The countdown began.
3… 2… 1!
The flash of the explosion tore through the freezing darkness, and the steel door collapsed with a thunderous crash.
The task force surged into the tunnel; the sounds of gunfire and explosions instantly echoed through the narrow space.
---
The Underground Core
Fifty meters below ground lay a massive data relay center. Dozens of quantum computers were running at high speeds, sending vast streams of data to attack nodes across the globe.
A middle-aged man in a black trench coat stood before the control console, arms crossed, watching the intrusion footage on the monitors with a cold expression.
Cain.
"It seems they found this place after all," Cain murmured. "However, there is nothing left here for them."
He pressed a red button on the console.
"Initiate self-destruct sequence. Purge all data."
System alarms blared, and red warning lights flashed frantically throughout the underground facility.
---
A Race Against Time
"They’re wiping the data!" Zhao Ming’s voice rang out in the earpiece. "You have to stop them!"
Xu Yunchuan ordered, "Task force, primary objective: intercept the data purge!"
The squad stormed the central control area. The technicians at the console were neutralized, and Zhao Ming remotely accessed the system.
"I’m forcing a freeze on the self-destruct sequence, but their security protocols are too complex! I need more time!"
"Buy him time!" Xu Yunchuan commanded the squad to establish a defensive line around the console to keep the enemy at bay.
Standing in the shadows, Cain watched it all with a cold detachment. He held a small remote device in his hand, his thumb hovering slowly toward a red button.
---
A Choice of Life and Death
"Zhao Ming, how much longer?" Xu Yunchuan shouted.
"Thirty seconds! Give me thirty seconds!"
A flicker of determination crossed Cain’s eyes, and he pressed the button.
"Initiate backup self-destruct system."
The entire underground center began to shake violently; steel beams and debris rained down from the ceiling.
"Zhao Ming, hurry!" Xu Yunchuan roared.
"Done! I’ve copied all the core data!" Zhao Ming’s voice came through.
---
"Everyone, evacuate immediately!" Xu Yunchuan ordered.
---
Escape
The task force members retreated from the underground center as the air grew thick with the scent of explosives.
A massive explosion erupted from below; the ground began to collapse, and the glaciers shattered.
At the very last second, the transport aircraft touched down on the ice sheet. The task force members scrambled aboard and took off toward the safety zone.
On the horizon, a massive fireball shot into the sky. The Arctic Relay Station was utterly destroyed.
---
Data Decryption
Back at headquarters, Zhao Ming immediately began analyzing the core data recovered from the Arctic station.
"This data reveals the Abyssal Consortium’s ultimate plan," Zhao Ming said, pointing to the complex technical architecture on the screen. "Their final goal is to seize total control over the global new energy network—not just the zero-carbon cities, but every system connected to the global energy hub."
"This is not just technological hegemony; it is the ultimate control over the global economy and politics," Shen Qingwan noted, her face pale.
"They are already undergoing the final integration," Zhao Ming continued. "And the center of all of this points to the 'Heart of the Abyss' project in northern Alaska."
"The Heart of the Abyss?" Xu Yunchuan frowned deeply. "That is their final fortress."
---
The Prelude to the Final Battle
Xu Yunchuan stood before the giant holographic map, his eyes sharp. "Their ultimate goal has been exposed. We must launch our attack before they complete their integration."
"If we fail, the global energy market will be completely under their control," Shen Qingwan said softly.
"This is our last chance. We cannot fail," Zhao Ming added firmly.
Xu Yunchuan took a deep breath, his gaze resolute. "Prepare all resources. Mobilize every available force. Target: The Heart of the Abyss!"
---
The storm has arrived, and the bell for the final act is about to toll. This is more than a contest of technology and capital; it is a life-or-death battle for the future of global energy.
