Chapter 76: Kill First, Talk Later
Too noisy!
After taking down the company’s operations group member who was shouting into the radio, Su Miao holstered her gun.
She’d wanted to kill this person yesterday already; his constant racket kept her from sleeping. However, he’d been carefully manipulating his position, always staying out of view, making it impossible to get a shot at him. But today, his luck had finally run out—he’d bravely stuck his head out and started blaring orders through a loudspeaker. That was certainty enough to send him to his death.
“Sister, that company leader Xu Heng is here as well,” Xia Xiao’an reminded her.
“Mm,” Su Miao replied crisply, swapping to her sniper rifle.
Even though she only had two sniper bullets left, Xu Heng was the commander in charge of the company’s snipers—he was worth a bullet.
Wait—
Suddenly, she noticed security team members approaching the villa where Xu Heng was located. On one side was Chang Jieming, on the other, Song Yourang, each leading a small group as they moved to surround the villa.
Were they sure about this maneuver?
Su Miao kept her sights trained.
Inside the villa, Xu Heng glanced at the two operations group members beside him and signaled with his hands. They instantly understood, raised their guns, and charged out.
Immediately, a barrage of gunfire erupted outside the villa.
Xu Heng was about to seize the opportunity to escape. Abruptly, he bit his tongue to clear his head, terror flooding him.
“My thoughts have been manipulated.”
“That I’d even consider sending my men out to die while I escape…”
Xu Heng was certain—if he left the villa, whether he poked his head out or ended up in an exposed area, he’d be a hundred percent guaranteed to be sniped by the murderous witch.
Terrifying!
Still, thanks to this accidental decision, he discovered there was an ambush outside—the security team!
Xu Heng grabbed his radio and called for backup.
Hiding in a room, he glanced towards Villa 36 with dread in his heart.
In fact, not long after the fighting began, Xu Heng had suspected Su Miao possessed a special ability, probably something akin to hawk’s vision, but he hadn’t anticipated her also having power to influence thoughts.
A witch who bewitches minds!
The moniker of “murderous witch” was no exaggeration.
Five minutes later, the two men he’d sent out as bait were killed by the security team.
Su Miao glanced at Xia Xiao’an beside her; Xia Xiao’an’s face was pale.
“Xiao’an, your influence failed?”
“…Yes.”
Xia Xiao’an nodded.
Su Miao said, “Xiao’an, don’t force it—just leave them with a suggestion.”
“Okay, sister,” Xia Xiao’an replied.
Su Miao continued watching the villa.
She was patient now, and at this distance, there was nothing to fear.
Chang Jieming and Song Yourang from the security team, after killing the two company members, stopped their assault. They blocked Xu Heng’s escape route, waiting for him to come out on his own.
Now it was a contest of patience.
…
Near the parking lot.
The operations group members stationed at the checkpoint stared out at the torrential rain, their moods gloomy.
The company had suffered unprecedented setbacks lately, their morale plummeting. The only thing to cheer them up was the rising body count, meaning more supplies for each survivor.
Yet every day, they had to stand guard in this damp checkpoint—what was there to even watch for?
With the rain so heavy, visibility was zero.
Who would come here, anyway?
Considering the frequent flash floods and landslides, or the dangerous mutated creatures that might suddenly appear, they doubted anyone would dare approach. Only a rare few could make it this far, and none of them had bait to distract the mutated animals.
Xu Heng, the team leader, insisted on daily inspections—a needless worry.
As for the gunfire? That had started days ago.
So many days had passed; had anyone actually succeeded in reaching here? Not one…
Just as he was thinking this, one operations group member suddenly felt his head twist uncontrollably, a crack sounded, and he blacked out.
Not far away, two special forces soldiers carefully lowered a corpse and signaled to each other.
The three formed a small unit, moving stealthily towards the parking lot.
En route, they took out five more guards.
Once the company began its routine radio checks and received no response, the operations group members in the parking lot quickly went into hiding.
“Boss, someone’s broken in—the checkpoint guards aren’t responding,” one member rushed in to report.
Chi Wan-ning asked, “How many casualties?”
“Including the checkpoint, eight people have been killed.”
Chi Wan-ning asked, “Did you see who they were?”
“Boss, they were all wearing camouflage uniforms.”
Chi Wan-ning lightly touched the Criminal Code and said coolly, “Blow up the bait warehouse—slow their advance.”
The member’s eyes widened in terror, but upon seeing Chi Wan-ning’s gaze, he immediately responded, “Yes!”
Chi Wan-ning opened the Criminal Code, and five assassins in black cloaks appeared behind her.
“Follow me.”
The five assassins quickly fell in step.
She had anticipated many scenarios, but never that regular troops would risk everything to come here; this was completely beyond her expectations.
Thus, Chi Wan-ning acted decisively.
But before leaving, Su Miao had to be dealt with.
She believed that the explosion at the bait warehouse would buy her plenty of time.
…
“Instructor, Zhao Xue says not to approach the temporary warehouse—it’s dangerous,” Bear Hui suddenly said.
Qin Longzhang, commanding the assault, glanced at Bear Hui and immediately ordered his men to stay clear.
Less than twenty seconds after the order, the warehouse Bear Hui had warned about exploded with a thunderous roar. The massive structure collapsed, shaking the earth, an awe-inspiring sight.
Qin Longzhang inhaled sharply at the scene before him.
When the dust settled, the ruins of the warehouse were strewn with the mangled corpses of mutated creatures—a chilling sight.
Even more frightening were the ones still alive, desperately clawing through the debris as if searching for something.
Bear Hui’s body suddenly trembled. “Instructor, Zhao Xue says we must leave now or people will die—head that way!”
“Alright!”
No time to investigate further, Qin Longzhang immediately gave the order to follow.
Without Bear Hui’s warning, at least three brothers would have died in the blast.
Elsewhere, Qin Longzhang spotted a gigantic spider crawling toward them—a mutated spider, extremely dangerous!
…
“Sister, she’s coming!” Xia Xiao’an’s face went white as she quickly warned.
Su Miao shifted her gaze and soon spotted the company boss, Chi Wan-ning, approaching her position.
Behind Chi Wan-ning followed five assassins in black cloaks, utterly devoid of presence.
What was she planning?
Su Miao didn’t know, but she immediately locked onto Chi Wan-ning and pulled the trigger!
Whatever Chi Wan-ning intended, it was best to kill her first.
Bang!
