Chapter 115: Even If We Kill You, You Still Belong to Us
"Grandson, do you see your grandfather? Do you want me to fly for you to see? Caw, caw, caw."
The myna bird flew into the sky and shouted at Zheng Kaicheng, "Grandson, I ask you, are you angry? If you are, come and kill me!"
"If you don't come to kill me, then you might as well just drop dead."
"Caw, caw, caw."
The myna's voice grew louder and louder. Zheng Kaicheng finally realized that the one speaking to him was a myna; what a damn beast. He clenched his fists, dying to put a bullet in the wretched bird.
Suddenly, Zheng Kaicheng sensed that something was wrong with his surroundings. He saw that the guard who had been shot in the head earlier had stood up at some point, and it began firing at him with its rifle. Zheng Kaicheng rolled away, his flames roaring as he incinerated the guard into ashes.
"Damn it!"
Having released his fire energy just once, Zheng Kaicheng was already panting. Because of what happened last night, his body was exceptionally weak.
"Grandson, why are you so hot-headed?" the myna asked with feigned concern. "Will you be able to perform like this?"
Zheng Kaicheng gasped for air, saying he could handle anything, but he absolutely could not stand being told he was incapable. Facing the attacks of the corpses and the mockery of the myna, Zheng Kaicheng’s temper truly flared. However, the consequence was that his kidneys felt like they were about to give out.
Damn!
Watching more corpses charge at him, Zheng Kaicheng fired continuously, blowing off their hands so they couldn't hold weapons. Even so, the corpses continued to rush toward him. Zheng Kaicheng kept shooting, shattering their leg bones. Even in that state, the corpses contorted their bodies like caterpillars, writhing toward him.
Seeing this, a chill ran down Zheng Kaicheng's spine. Heaven knows what kind of pervert the girl on the other side was to be able to control corpses like this. Faced with such a terrifying enemy, he finally understood why Zheng Meng and Yu Yuangui had both sent out distress signals. If one wasn't careful, the comrades dying beside you might put a magazine of bullets into you—who could defend against that?
By the time he heard the gunfire, it was already too late. Zheng Kaicheng kept his eyes sharp and ears alert, rolling away and firing rapidly to cripple the hands and legs of yet another charging corpse.
In the distance, Su Miao held her Type 36 sniper rifle, trying several times to lock onto Zheng Kaicheng, but failing each time. As expected, a powerful ability user was not so easy to kill.
Scary. But Su Miao was patient. As long as she could inflict even a single wound on Zheng Kaicheng, she would win.
"Dog, spit fire!" The myna soared in the sky, maintaining its barrage of insults.
Zheng Kaicheng had tried to kill the myna several times, but whenever he did, bullets would rain down from the sky. If he didn't dodge in time, his head would be blown open. What kind of marksmanship was this? Zheng Kaicheng grew increasingly terrified. He cursed Zheng Yingjun a thousand times in his heart and hated himself even more for having been so reckless the night before.
Every time he took down a corpse, Zheng Kaicheng had to gasp for air, all while dodging the bullets falling from the sky.
"Too hard to snipe..." After wasting several sniper rounds, Su Miao switched her rifle to a Type 95 assault rifle. The Type 95 had plenty of ammunition; she wasn't afraid of wasting it.
"Friend, could you show some respect? I can give you whatever you want inside the Fire God Base," Zheng Kaicheng shouted, hoping for a response.
"Grandson, if you want respect, stand up and walk a few steps to talk," the myna mocked from the sky. It didn't know why people from the Fire God Base were so obsessed with "face," but if you didn't come out, how could people see your face?
As for Su Miao, she ignored him entirely. The intense malice radiating from Zheng Kaicheng was like a beacon in the dark. It made it much easier for Su Miao to lock onto him, though it was a pity that Zheng Kaicheng managed to dodge every time.
"I am Zheng Kaicheng, the leader of the Fire God Base. I consider myself to have some strength. If you let me go, I am willing to give the Fire God Base to you," Zheng Kaicheng said again. He was desperate now, wanting only to escape. His intuition told him that if he didn't leave soon, he might die here.
"Kill you, and it’s ours anyway!" the myna retorted arrogantly.
Su Miao fired a shot in support, but the bullet missed slightly, failing to injure him. After more than fifty shots, she still hadn't managed to hurt Zheng Kaicheng, and Su Miao was getting anxious. A person filled with such malice could not be allowed to escape, or it would be a threat to her own life.
Suddenly, a golden-winged roc appeared in the sky above the Fire God Base like lightning. It had come looking for food in the morning, but had encountered the enlarged myna bird and, terrified, had made a ninety-degree turn and fled. The roc waited patiently for several hours, thinking the myna had finished hunting, and decided to check the Fire God Base in the afternoon.
Then, the golden-winged roc saw the little myna in the sky pointing at a man on the ground and cursing him out—a truly absurd sight. The man being cursed was someone the roc knew well; it wanted nothing more than to tear him apart and eat his flesh. As for Su Miao on the other side, the roc wanted to flee the moment it saw her.
But it had been spotted. In fact, the roc had given Su Miao a start too. She immediately switched to her Type 36 sniper rifle, ready to shoot the bird to prevent a surprise attack. Now, she adjusted the angle of her magical space array, even pausing her attacks on Zheng Kaicheng.
At this moment, no one had more complex feelings than Zheng Kaicheng. He and this golden-winged roc were old enemies. He had stolen and eaten its eggs during a rainstorm—was that really enough to hold such a grudge?
The roc looked at the myna circling in the sky, and noticing the bird's gaze, it immediately recognized the myna's identity. Affected by the apocalypse, many animals had mutated. To hunt and survive, they evolved new methods, the most popular being to appear as prey. For example, a predator might shrink to the size of a kitten to look easy to catch, or a bird of prey might shrink to the size of a sparrow. But anyone foolish enough to try to hunt them would be instantly killed in retaliation.
"What are you looking at?" The myna glared at the roc. "Kill the grandson down there, or I'll kill you."
The golden-winged roc was furious—didn't it have its own dignity? But it still dove toward Zheng Kaicheng immediately. Its claws tore through the cold air and falling snow, reaching Zheng Kaicheng in the blink of an eye.
Huh? Su Miao, who had been ready to shoot the roc, paused. She hadn't expected the myna to actually command the roc, or perhaps it was just a coincidence, but regardless, it was a good thing.
Su Miao locked her Type 36 sniper rifle onto Zheng Kaicheng once more. The next second, she saw a shocking scene. Faced with the roc's attack, Zheng Kaicheng fired his rifle, but the bullets hitting the roc's feathers sounded like metal striking metal, failing to hurt it in the slightest. The roc’s momentum was only slightly checked, its claws nearly hooking into Zheng Kaicheng’s face.
What a pity.
"Don't push me!" Zheng Kaicheng erupted with high-temperature flames, blasting them toward the roc. The roc dodged, but the two corpses following behind were instantly incinerated into ashes.
How terrifying. Su Miao seized the opportunity and pulled the trigger. Unfortunately, Zheng Kaicheng dodged it again.
Suddenly, a massive boom shook the earth. The ammunition depot inside the Fire God Base had been hit by the undead and was exploding. Zheng Kaicheng lost his footing, and the roc’s claws slashed his face, causing blood to flow freely. At the same time, Su Miao’s hands trembled as she pulled the trigger again; the bullet pierced Zheng Kaicheng’s shoulder blade. These Type 36 sniper rounds were coated with potent hallucinogenic poison. She wasn't sure if it would work after being fired through the barrel, as it sometimes failed, but it didn't matter—Zheng Kaicheng was already wounded.
Su Miao stood up from the snow and reached out a hand.
Blood poured out incessantly!
"You all deserve to die!" Zheng Kaicheng was beyond furious. Seeing Su Miao stand up so arrogantly, he unleashed a barrage of gunfire, desperate to kill her instantly. But the bullets whizzed past, and there was no reaction at all.
How could this be? By the time he emptied his magazine, Su Miao was still completely unharmed.
Before he could resolve his confusion, the golden-winged roc attacked again. Zheng Kaicheng burned with rage, erupting with even more terrifying flames, forcing the roc to turn away. However, Zheng Kaicheng soon felt something was very wrong. After shooting him once, Su Miao had stopped attacking. Even the myna in the sky had ceased its mockery. No matter how intense his battle with the roc became, Su Miao just stood there, holding her Type 36 sniper rifle, watching him.
Her eyes... it was as if she were looking at a corpse.
Even more absurdly, the remaining few corpses had also stopped attacking him and stood not far away, watching him in silence.
Zheng Kaicheng grew increasingly panicked. He wanted to ask why, but the roc’s relentless attacks gave him no time. Just as he thought this, the roc suddenly changed direction and flew off into the distance like a bolt of lightning. It had left the battlefield.
?
What was going on?
Zheng Kaicheng felt a chill on his face and instinctively licked his lips—it tasted salty. He wiped his face, and his palm was covered in blood. Looking down, there was already a pool of blood in the snow. Even more terrifying, some of the blood in the snow was black; was it frozen? No, it was flowing from the wound in his shoulder blade. Due to the extreme cold, he hadn't felt much pain.
"Grandson, you finally noticed? You're already dead," the myna chirped mockingly from above.
It was over!
The fear in his heart climbed to the breaking point. If only he hadn't been so reckless last night, he could have at least been at his peak during the fight, but it was too late now. Zheng Kaicheng glanced at the myna, then at Su Miao standing in the distance, and steeled his heart: "I begged you like that, why wouldn't you let me go? Since you won't let me live, then let's all die together!"
Suddenly, massive flames erupted from Zheng Kaicheng's body. His frame began to expand, turning him into a giant nearly three meters tall. His head was aflame, his body was aflame; he looked like a fire demon from a movie. As he breathed, the high temperature melted the surrounding snow. As he walked, the heat left trails of molten lava on the ground. It was terrifying.
"Ahhh! The grandson turned into a monster!!!" The myna shrieked in terror, the intense heat forcing it to retreat hundreds of meters away.
"ROAR!"
Having turned into a creature resembling a fire demon, Zheng Kaicheng lost his mind. He charged straight at Su Miao, his eyes filled only with the desire to kill. Su Miao fired several shots, but the bullets struck the fire demon like they were hitting solid rock.
How could this be?
Seeing the fire demon getting closer, Su Miao tossed several large water orbs at it, but they were all instantly evaporated. The high-temperature steam expanded, melting a large area of snow nearby. The fire demon was getting closer. Each step it took shook the ground and left lava footprints. At this moment, even with the magical space array helping to absorb a large amount of the direct heat, Su Miao could still feel the scorching temperature. She had mana covering her entire body to insulate against the heat and cold, and even then...
What was happening?
There was no time to think. If the water orbs were useless, only this remained. Su Miao looked at the charging fire demon and released the large, purplish-blue fireball from her magical space.
The giant blue fireball slammed directly into the fire demon. Daring not to look at the terror of the explosion, Su Miao immediately hugged her Type 36 sniper rifle and crouched into a snow pit, using the magical space array to block the shockwave, covering her ears and shivering.
BOOM!
Time seemed to stand still. Struck by the explosion of the purplish-blue fireball, the fire demon's body was torn apart by the extreme heat, shattering and annihilating into nothingness. The blue light swept across the sky above the Fire God Base, instantly melting the snow over hundreds of thousands of square meters into water. A corner of the Fire God Base was blasted open, and the melted water rushed inside.
Rumble!
The ground shook, the sky exploded; it was like the end of the world.
The myna was terrified out of its wits. Unable to reach Princess Su Miao, it immediately transformed into its pitch-black predatory form and whistled away, speeding thousands of meters off. Even so, several of its beautiful feathers were singed. It had been truly scared out of its mind. If it had been just a second slower, it would have been dead.
Su Miao huddled in the snow pit, frightened. She had forgotten how massive and terrifying the blue fireball stored in her magical space was, and in her panic, she had just hurled it out.
Five minutes later, a terrified Su Miao wiped the tears from the corners of her eyes and cautiously stood up to look at the explosion site. Zheng Kaicheng, the fire demon, was gone. In his place was a massive crater, with shocking fissures running along its edge. The melted snow was pouring into the Fire God Base like a mountain flood. Faint cries for help could still be heard in the distance.
The Fire God Base was completely finished.
