The supplies on the first floor were not Yu Yue’s main target. She collected only a token amount of the ordinary snacks and daily necessities.

As the largest supermarket in River City, the second and third floors naturally offered no shortage of haute couture, luxury goods, and expensive jewelry.

Before the apocalypse, Yu Yue had spent her money as practically as possible, purchasing supplies that would be useful for survival. Although she had temporarily cut off her long hair, what girl did not love beautiful things?

In her previous life, when she had lived with the Lin family, loving beauty had been the least of her concerns. Even eating her fill and avoiding a beating had been almost impossible dreams.

Even after she was reclaimed by a wealthy family, she had constantly been suppressed and looked down upon. Compared with their spoiled little princess, Yu Jiaojiao, this daughter who had accidentally been lost outside the family was simply too shabby.

Yu Yue had always longed for familial affection in her previous life, and under the relentless belittlement of those so-called relatives, she had gradually grown more and more insecure. Eventually, she had even grown thick bangs to hide her face.

But in this life, she would never again take the nonsense of irrelevant people to heart.

Now that the apocalypse had descended and order had collapsed, those exquisite items had instead become the least valuable things of all. Sweeping up everything unrelated to survival would not harm the future survivors in the slightest.

With the power out, she had no choice but to take the stairs. Yet the moment she opened the emergency exit door, a zombie lunged straight at her. Yu Yue raised her knife with one hand to block it, but she had not expected the creature to possess such tremendous strength. She was forced backward several steps and nearly fell down the staircase.

The zombie’s claws were restrained, but its roar continued without pause. Yu Yue’s eyes darkened as she saw a trace of heat and fire suddenly flicker within that foul, blood-filled mouth.

Without time to think, she condensed an icicle in her other hand and shot it into the zombie’s open maw. The blow pierced straight through its skull.

With its control center destroyed, the zombie collapsed at once. Only then did Yu Yue notice that, compared with the other zombies that had just been born, this one’s skin was distinctly more blue-black. Moreover, judging from what had just happened, it had clearly been preparing to unleash a fireball.

This zombie had probably mutated before the apocalypse.

Yu Yue stirred the shattered remains of its head with the tip of her knife. When she finally touched something hard, a flicker of delight appeared in her eyes.

She took a glove from her storage space, picked up the completely crimson crystal, and washed it clean with a bottle of mineral water.

It was a first-level fire-type zombie core. Unfortunately, because the zombie had only just evolved, it contained very little supernatural energy, and its attribute did not suit Yu Yue particularly well.

After placing the core in her storage space, Yu Yue began sweeping through the clothing, handbags, and shoes for men and women on the second floor. In each shop, she took only the styles she liked.

She casually dealt with the zombies foolish enough to get in her way, then arrived at the third floor, where all kinds of jewelry were sold. This time, she did not hold back.

Girls were naturally drawn to glittering things, and Yu Yue happily stored away the jewelry that had been worth a fortune before the apocalypse.

There were noticeably fewer zombies on this floor than on the first and second floors. That made sense. Ordinary people did not often have spare money to wander around a place like this.

Above this were restaurants, cinemas, and entertainment facilities, so there was no need to explore any farther.

Although she had collected nothing that would be worth much in the apocalypse, that did not diminish Yu Yue’s good mood in the slightest.

Her next step was to leave River City. She had also prepared herself for the coming reunion with the Yu family. She remembered the escape route they had taken when they abandoned her in her previous life with absolute clarity.

Thinking of her dear little sister and her dear fiancé, Yu Yue’s already pleasant mood grew even lighter. Excitement and madness rose in her eyes. She was truly looking forward to meeting them.

She soon returned to the first floor. The college students who had still been fleeing in panic from the zombies when she left had, for some reason, been reduced to only Wu Xiang and Wang Xinran.

When the two saw Yu Yue descending with a backpack stuffed full of supplies, their gazes were instantly drawn to her. Seeing how full the pack was, undisguised greed filled their eyes.

Wang Xinran panted in small, shallow breaths. She had nearly been caught by the zombies twice. The first time, she had shoved the girl running beside her in front of herself. The second time, Wu Xiang had stepped forward and saved her.

This group of young college students had not been nearly so lucky. Apart from Wang Xinran and Wu Xiang, not one of them had survived.

Wu Xiang had been injured on one arm while saving her, and black blood was still oozing from the wound. However, having only just survived a life-or-death crisis, neither of them noticed anything unusual about it.

The renewed exertion had left Wang Xinran’s stomach aching with hunger. Wu Xiang had just taken out the bread he had risked his life to obtain when Wang Xinran, her eyes glowing with greed, snatched it away.

Wu Xiang’s lips paled slightly as he hesitated. He had wanted to say that they did not have much food and that he had intended to split the bread in half.

But seeing Wang Xinran wolf it down, he ultimately could not bring himself to speak.

A trace of mockery flashed through Yu Yue’s eyes at the sight.

She could not be bothered to pay any more attention to the pair and turned to leave. Wang Xinran had just stuffed the last bite of bread into her mouth when she saw Yu Yue preparing to depart without the slightest hesitation. She hurriedly rose, panic written across her face.

How much food had that useless Wu Xiang managed to obtain, despite risking his life? During the brief rest they had taken, she had already learned through the internet that the entire world had become a living hell.

What had just happened had also made her understand that the cold-faced youth before her possessed extraordinary strength. Only by following someone like him could she survive in this apocalypse.

Besides, Wang Xinran’s gaze grew increasingly bashful as she looked at Yu Yue. Someone this handsome was exactly the kind of man worthy of her.

She ran forward and grabbed Yu Yue by the hem of her clothes, speaking in a syrupy voice. “My savior, can I come with you? I want to repay you for saving my life.”

Yu Yue’s footsteps halted. Disgust and revulsion churned within her, yet she did not shake off the woman’s hand.

She turned around. There was not the slightest trace of impatience on her face. Having already formed a plan, she looked into Wang Xinran’s eyes with a faint, ambiguous smile.

“Of course. I’m looking forward to your repayment.”

Those words left Wang Xinran immersed in the joy of having found someone powerful to rely on. She completely failed to notice the deeper meaning in Yu Yue’s tone.

“My name is Cheng Yue.”

Cheng was Yu Yue’s grandmother’s surname, and it was just right for deceiving the foolish woman before her.

Wang Xinran stared, somewhat mesmerized, at Yu Yue’s face, which looked even more beautiful when she smiled. She had completely forgotten that this was the same ruthless killer who had hacked apart zombie heads with a single stroke each.

Only a few steps away, Wu Xiang was so furious at the sight that he nearly vomited blood. His already pale face turned white as paper.

Wang Xinran looked delighted as she prepared to follow Yu Yue away, but then she saw Yu Yue remain where she was and point toward Wu Xiang behind her.

“He seems to be your friend. Aren’t you taking him with you?”

Take that useless Wu Xiang along? Was there any need for that?

Disdain spread across Wang Xinran’s face. She had just been about to distance herself from Wu Xiang when Yu Yue slowly continued:

“After all, he was injured protecting you just now.”
