Chapter 56: Slaying the Demon (Part 2)
At this moment, Feng Yuan felt as if he were trapped inside a scene from Resident Evil, with a horde of zombies lunging toward him. If he were caught, he knew he would be torn to shreds. Dead bodies surrounded him on all sides; there was nowhere to run, no passage to the underworld, leaving only the sky above as an escape.
Looking up, Feng Yuan saw that the beam above his head was just two meters high. Without a second thought, he summoned all his strength and leapt straight up. Ordinarily, he would never have dared to attempt such a feat, but after his cultivation, he could no longer measure himself by normal standards. His speed and strength far surpassed that of ordinary people. With a single leap, he sprang onto the beam, seized it with both hands, clamped his legs around it, and with a nimble twist, lay sprawled across the top.
Below him, the corpses snapped at empty air, glaring up at Feng Yuan. The next moment, they began to leap upward, lunging for him on the beam.
Seeing this, Feng Yuan’s heart sank. He immediately summoned the golden light from his dantian and hurled it at the corpses leaping toward him.
With a blast and a shriek, his palm struck Feng Hanyun, who had just reached him. Feng Hanyun’s body exploded at once, and a small weasel shot out from his belly, landing on the ground and writhing in agony.
“So it was a weasel hiding inside the body!” Feng Yuan thought to himself. Earlier, Hu Xiao had mentioned that there was something hidden within Feng Changshun and Feng Hanyun, but it hadn’t been clear what. He hadn’t expected it to be weasels.
Now that the weasel had been expelled from Feng Hanyun’s body, the corpse immediately reverted to its lifeless, rotting state, nauseating to behold.
At that moment, the other corpses surged upward, lunging for Feng Yuan.
“Die!” Feng Yuan shouted, swiftly swinging his right hand. Several streaks of golden light shot from his palm, slashing into the oncoming corpses.
One after another, the corpses were struck and exploded, limbs scattering across the floor. Out from each burst body tumbled a small weasel, writhing, sobbing, some lying motionless, clearly dead.
Feng Yuan was overjoyed. While he was no match for the largest weasel, these smaller ones were easily dispatched by his strength.
“Wretched human! How dare you harm my descendants—taste my wrath!” bellowed a voice.
The large golden weasel on the ground roared at Feng Yuan, its words barely faded when it opened its mouth wide and spat a massive blast of golden light at the beam where Feng Yuan clung.
“Not good!” Feng Yuan thought, and without hesitation, he flung himself forward, dropping toward the ground.
With a thunderous crash, the weasel’s attack struck where Feng Yuan had just been, shattering the great beam to splinters. A large chunk of wood slammed into Feng Yuan’s back as he hit the ground hard, the pain so sharp it felt as if he’d been stabbed. Blood seeped across his back; the agony left him unable to stand.
At once, the remaining twenty or so corpses pounced upon him. Feng Yuan, wracked with pain, could barely move—utterly powerless against the oncoming horde.
Suddenly, from the window on the side of the Sage’s Temple, two enormous green swords of light tore through the air, aimed directly at the giant weasel.
With twin explosions and a howl, the weasel, caught off guard just as Feng Yuan had been by its earlier attack, was struck full force by the sword lights. Its flesh split open, blood sprayed across the temple, and it flew across the hall to crash against the opposite wall, leaving blood smeared everywhere as it collapsed in a heap, screaming in agony. Half its side was laid bare to the bone—a grievous wound.
With the great weasel wounded, the corpses attacking Feng Yuan suddenly halted. Swarms of weasels burst from their bodies, scattering in all directions and vanishing in a flash.
Clearly, the lesser weasels within the corpses had been under the control of the large one. Now that its control was broken by the attack, they all fled.
“My lord, forgive me for being late—are you all right?” came a voice from outside. In a flash of green, Hu Xiao swept into the hall, landing before Feng Yuan. She bent down to help him, her face full of worry.
“I’m all right, just my back hurts,” Feng Yuan gritted his teeth and replied, reaching back to touch the wound. His hand came away cool and wet—not urine, but blood.
“You’re bleeding!” Hu Xiao exclaimed with alarm as she saw the wound.
“I’ll be fine, it’s not fatal. Go and kill that weasel—don’t let it escape!” Feng Yuan said, pointing at the struggling creature on the floor.
Before he finished speaking, the giant weasel let out a sudden fart. Instantly, a foul yellow gas billowed from its rear, flooding toward them like a chemical explosion.
The stench was unbearable; Feng Yuan and Hu Xiao nearly retched. To die from such a stench would be the ultimate humiliation.
Without hesitation, Hu Xiao scooped Feng Yuan up and dashed for the door, narrowly avoiding the spreading cloud of reeking gas. Inside the temple, every inch of air was now tainted by the weasel’s foulness.
“My lord, the weasel is trying to escape. Wait here for me—I’ll finish it off!” said Hu Xiao, racing toward the rear of the temple.
“Wait for me! I’m coming too!” Though injured, Feng Yuan’s wound was not so serious as to stop him. Gritting his teeth, he forced himself upright and hurried after her.
Behind the temple, the weasel had already leapt out the window and was fleeing up the mountainside, injured but still swift as it darted through the woods.
Hu Xiao transformed into a streak of green light, speeding after it and quickly closing the gap, ready to strike.
But again, the weasel let loose a stink bomb, filling the air with yellow haze and obscuring Hu Xiao’s sight completely.
However, from farther back, Feng Yuan could still see, his view unobstructed by the cloud.
“Hmph! Think you can escape after injuring me? In my previous life, I was a scoundrel—I’ve always bullied others, never the other way around, let alone by a mere weasel. Watch how I finish you!” he declared.
With that, Feng Yuan drew a dagger from his robes and, invoking sword-control, sent it hurtling toward the distant weasel like a shooting star.
