Chapter 29: Even Stronger After Redemption
Yang Dai opened his eyes and asked, “How strong is it?”
The Gray Wolf pondered. “I’m not entirely sure, but it’s enormous and possesses incredible strength. Just looking at it is terrifying. If it’s above the Breathing Realm, I probably won’t get away.”
Yang Dai’s interest was piqued. Among his Yin Spirits, there were no monsters yet; this could be worth a try.
He stood up, clapped his hands, and called out, “Alright, everyone, let’s go hunting for a monster! Let’s see if we can subdue an MT for you all—someone to tank damage at the front from now on!”
The Yin Spirits immediately gathered at his call.
Liu Junjie became instantly excited and shouted, “Finally, it’s time to level up by fighting monsters! Let’s go! Gear drops, inner cores—here we come!”
He had always loved adventure, and now that he was dead, he feared nothing.
Yang Dai stored most of his Yin Spirits into his soul space, leaving only the Gray Wolf to lead the way, with Liang Zixiao, Tian Buzhong, Bai Wei, and Cheng the Hungry Ghost as bodyguards.
Though the group was small, Liang Zixiao gave Yang Dai an unprecedented sense of security.
Their journey was uneventful.
An hour later, they arrived before a lake. In the center of the lake stood a small island with an ancient tree ten fathoms high. The water was a deep green, and with mountains surrounding it on all sides, the scenery was picturesque, refreshing the soul.
Yang Dai asked, “Where’s the monster?”
The Gray Wolf frowned, looking around. “It was just lying by the shore, and it didn’t seem inclined to move. Where did it go?”
Cheng the Hungry Ghost asked, “Why do you think it’s lazy?”
“Because it’s a pig. It looked very sluggish.”
“A pig?”
Everyone frowned, and Yang Dai was a little disappointed.
How strong could a pig demon be?
“It’s still here. In the lake,” Liang Zixiao said suddenly. He leaped into the air, and the sword at his waist unsheathed itself, landing beneath his feet.
Magnificent!
Sword-riding technique!
Yang Dai was filled with envy. No spell could compare to sword-riding for sheer style. Style was a lifelong pursuit.
His spiritual power wasn’t yet sufficient to sustain sword-riding for long, and the skill demanded precise control of spirit power. He hadn’t trained in it yet, considering it a waste of time.
With his current power, sword-riding wouldn’t help him escape danger anyway. Why bother learning it now? When he reached a higher realm, it would be easier to cultivate.
Liang Zixiao soared over the lake on his sword.
Yang Dai immediately released all his Yin Spirits, instructing them to spread out along the lakeshore and surround the entire lake to prevent the pig demon’s escape.
“So exciting! So exciting!” Liu Junjie trembled with excitement, leaving his fellow trial Yin Spirits speechless.
Ever since his death, the guy had grown weirder.
“This lake is deeper than it looks. Be careful, master—don’t get dragged in,” Liang Zixiao’s voice called.
Yang Dai heard and instantly backed away, drawing his Destiny Sword.
Monsters were not mere beasts; they possessed intelligence akin to humans—sometimes even more cunning.
[Congratulations to ‘Ye Qiuxian’ of the Xia Nation on obtaining the legacy of the Legendary Ancestor of Great Xia!]
A line of text floated before Yang Dai’s eyes, making him raise an eyebrow.
Ye Qiuxian again!
Could his recent breakthrough be due to the Great Xia Ancestor?
Regardless, Ye Qiuxian was destined to make headlines today. Yang Dai could already imagine him dominating the trending topics.
Setting aside these thoughts, he focused back on the lake.
Suddenly—
The lake’s surface exploded. Yang Dai reflexively turned to look, his eyes widening.
A massive black creature burst from the water. Sunlight glistened off countless droplets as a black-haired wild boar, larger than any elephant Yang Dai had seen at the zoo, soared skyward. Two white tusks jutted like spears.
With a crash, the black-haired pig demon landed on the shore, its colossal body pinning one of the Yin Spirits. Had it been a living person, they’d have been flattened, but the Yin Spirit, intangible when not attacking, simply darted out from within the pig demon in terror.
Even the pig demon was startled, bouncing back in alarm.
Liang Zixiao needed no command; he was already charging at the pig demon.
He leapt, his sword flying to meet his grasp. With both hands, he slashed downward at the pig demon, sending arcs of sword energy raining down from above. Blood spurted from the demon’s hide.
A furious roar—unlike any pig’s—shook the air. The pig demon’s eyes turned red as it spun and lunged at the airborne Liang Zixiao.
“So dashing,” Yang Dai thought, watching Liang Zixiao unleash his might.
His gaze settled on the pig demon, anticipation shining in his eyes.
This pig demon was truly formidable!
Its sheer size was enough to intimidate.
If he could subdue it as a Yin Spirit, riding it into battle would be sheer bliss!
The pig demon’s jumping ability was astonishing; it leapt several fathoms high, jaws snapping at Liang Zixiao. Midair, Liang Zixiao’s sword flashed, unleashing wave after wave of sword energy that slashed into the pig demon, splattering blood. The demon didn’t even blink, seizing Liang Zixiao’s shoulder in its jaws and dragging him down into the lake.
So fast!
Yang Dai frowned, suddenly worried for Liang Zixiao.
This pig demon was no easy foe. Would Liang Zixiao be torn to pieces underwater?
He still wasn’t sure what truly destroyed a Yin Spirit. If they were shattered, that was certain death—but being torn in half might not be. Previously, when Liang Zixiao had cut Yin Spirits in two, they’d recovered.
Moreover, Yin Spirits had another rule: once they engaged in battle—once they actively struck a living creature—they couldn’t revert to their incorporeal form for a short time.
He didn’t order the other Yin Spirits into the water. Liang Zixiao was the strongest; if he couldn’t win, the others would only be fodder.
“This is definitely a boss. Its tusks could be made into weapons, its hide into armor, and who knows—its meat might even boost cultivation.”
Liu Junjie shouted excitedly to Yang Dai, but Yang Dai ignored him.
The lake’s surface began to churn violently, revealing the ferocity of the struggle below.
With a thunderous crash, the water erupted again. The black-haired pig demon was hurled out, spinning through the air before crashing onto the lakeside grass. Its limbs trembled, and it struggled to rise, collapsing again and again before finally standing. Its body was covered in blood, with long, narrow cuts from sword energy, scorch marks from flames, and even bones protruding from its joints.
How many spiritual roots did Liang Zixiao possess to master so many spells? Yang Dai wondered silently.
Liang Zixiao swiftly soared from the lake like a violet rainbow, sword in hand, pointing it at the pig demon as he charged once more.
This strike was unimaginably fast!
The pig demon opened its maw, spitting a barrage of water arrows at Liang Zixiao.
Liang Zixiao, like a rainbow piercing the sun, swept forward. His sword energy scattered the water arrows; his blade plunged into the pig demon’s mouth and out through the back of its neck, the tip gleaming as blood gushed forth.
The Yin Spirits were all stunned.
Tian Buzhong, Bai Wei, and Cheng the Hungry Ghost shuddered inwardly. In retrospect, they’d only managed to kill Liang Zixiao by sheer luck.
Yang Dai’s eyes sparkled. In dramas, villains usually grew weaker after redemption, but Liang Zixiao seemed only to have become stronger.
With his head bowed, Liang Zixiao wrenched his sword free; blood splattered the earth as the pig demon slowly collapsed.
Even in death, the pig demon was like a small mountain. Liang Zixiao’s entire body looked smaller than its head—a contrast that made the scene all the more striking.
