Chapter 57 The Truth Revealed, Justice Restored
Lin Shiya’s heart gave a sudden jolt; that vivid red imperial seal was like a scalding brand, burned deep into her gaze. She forced herself to quell the turmoil raging within, warning herself not to lose composure.
At this moment, in the grand hall, every eye was fixed upon her, piercing her heart like countless sharpened blades. The oppressive atmosphere was almost tangible, suffocating in its intensity.
She straightened her back, her gaze unwavering, prepared to weather this final storm.
Minister Li’s contorted face was twisted into a ghastly grin as he raised the letter high, as if wielding a decree that could command the world. His smug demeanor was reminiscent of a snarling fiend.
“Lin Shiya, haven’t you always claimed unparalleled intelligence? Today, I shall see you utterly defeated!” His shrill voice echoed through the hall, eerie and chilling, like the whisper of ghosts.
“Gentlemen, look closely!” Minister Li shouted, his voice brimming with manic glee, as if he already envisioned Lin Shiya’s disgrace and ruin. “This is a treasonous letter, written in Lin Shiya’s own hand—the newest laureate!” He pointed at the letter, his wrinkles smoothing with excitement, resembling a venomous snake poised to devour its prey.
A sudden uproar swept through the court; officials who had once believed in Lin Shiya now exchanged uneasy glances, whispering among themselves—a swarm of unseen insects buzzing, stirring anxiety.
That letter, like a looming shadow, pressed Lin Shiya to the brink.
The conflict between her and Minister Li had reached a fever pitch; the air was thick with the scent of gunpowder, as if a cataclysmic storm was about to engulf the entire court.
Minister Li threw back his head with laughter, his voice laced with triumph and mockery. “What do you have to say now, Lin Shiya? Did you think you could turn the tides at will? Today, you will learn the folly of overreaching!”
Lin Shiya drew a deep breath, striving to calm the turbulence in her chest. Her eyes shone with a resolve never before seen.
She slowly raised her head, her gaze razor-sharp as it met Minister Li’s, her words ringing out, deliberate and unyielding: “I demand to examine this so-called ‘treasonous letter’ closely.”
Having been granted permission, Lin Shiya did not open the letter immediately, but held it aloft, letting the light from the hall windows illuminate it as she scrutinized every detail.
What appeared a casual gesture was, in truth, laden with intent.
Her slender fingers gently traced the paper, her brows furrowing, as though she had discovered something amiss.
“This paper…” Her voice, though soft, carried clearly through the quiet hall, each word rippling across the placid surface of the assembly.
“The texture of this paper differs from what I usually use.” She paused, her gaze sweeping over Minister Li’s suddenly pale face, a trace of cold amusement curling her lips. “This is the newly made Snow Pattern Paper, which did not exist when my family was falsely accused.”
Her words sent a shock through the court.
Officials murmured, glancing at Minister Li with newfound suspicion and scrutiny.
His triumphant smile froze instantly; he had never imagined that Lin Shiya would find a flaw in something as trivial as the paper.

Lin Shiya set the letter down, her gaze unwavering as she stared at Minister Li. “Minister Li, do you have any explanation?”
His face darkened; he opened his mouth but no words came. His carefully orchestrated scheme had been so easily exposed, leaving him defeated and furious.
“But that is not all,” Lin Shiya withdrew a ledger from her sleeve and raised it high. “This is the result of my secret investigation, documenting Minister Li’s collusion with court officials, framing the loyal, and his countless acts of corruption and bribery!”
The ledger was presented to the emperor, item by item, each piece of evidence irrefutable.
The officials in the hall erupted in condemnation; none could have imagined that the seemingly upright Minister Li had committed so many misdeeds behind closed doors.
Minister Li’s face turned ashen; he collapsed powerlessly to the floor, his eyes hollow, as if his soul had been stripped away.
Attendant Zhao, Master Gongsun, and Steward Wei were likewise stricken pale, knowing there was no escape for them either.
Lin Shiya surveyed the scene before her, her heart awash with emotion.
At last, she had cleared her family’s name and brought the conspirators to justice.
“General Sun…”
General Sun strode forward, his steps resolute and eyes shining with gratitude.
He came before Lin Shiya, grasping her hands tightly, his voice trembling with barely contained emotion. “Scholar Lin, thanks to you, my innocence has been restored. I am eternally grateful!”
Lin Shiya returned his grasp with a gentle smile, warmth surging in her heart.
She patted the back of his hand tenderly, her words gentle: “General Sun, this is our duty. As colleagues in court, we should support one another and weather hardships together.”
They exchanged smiles, their friendship deepening in that moment.
The officials turned admiring glances toward Lin Shiya, the hall filled with a sense of relief and joy.
Sunlight streamed through the windows, illuminating Lin Shiya, casting her as a beacon of justice.
Then the emperor’s commanding voice resounded through the hall: “Minister Li, Attendant Zhao, Master Gongsun, Steward Wei—your crimes are numerous and vile. The evidence is irrefutable. You will be imprisoned at once and await the court’s punishment! The Lin family’s wrongful case is fully overturned. Lin Shiya, your merit in purging the traitors is unparalleled!”
Lin Shiya stood tall in the court, pride and contentment radiating from her.
A warm current flowed within her; sunlight bathed her resolute face.
She took a deep breath, scanning the court with determined eyes, her heart filled with hope for the future.
Just then, a familiar figure appeared quietly in the corner of the hall. He smiled faintly, nodded slowly, as if to say, “You did well, Lin Shiya.”
Her gaze met his, and an involuntary smile touched her lips.

She reflected inwardly that this victory was not hers alone, but belonged also to those who had silently supported her.
Murong Fu’s gaze lingered on Lin Shiya, her wisdom, courage, and sense of duty profoundly moving him.
He watched as she spoke with eloquence and authority in the hall, admiration rising within him, difficult to describe.
He had never encountered such a brilliant woman; she was like a dazzling pearl, illuminating the entire court.
A barely perceptible smile played on his lips, his eyes shining with gentle warmth, as if the whole world faded to just her.
Lin Shiya felt Murong Fu’s gaze as well; she turned her head slightly, meeting his eyes.
In that instant when their eyes met, a surge of electricity seemed to course through her, her heartbeat quickening.
She saw the appreciation and affection in his eyes, and a sweet warmth blossomed in her heart.
Amidst the solemn court, a subtle affection quietly bloomed between them, a delicate, ambiguous atmosphere spreading in the air.
At that moment, hurried footsteps echoed from outside the hall, shattering the brief serenity.
A palace guard rushed in, dropping to his knees before the emperor and announced loudly, “Your Majesty, urgent news from the frontier!”
The guard’s voice trembled, his face pale and drenched in sweat.
The envelope in his hands quivered, foreboding something ominous.
The emperor’s expression grew grave; he took the envelope and swiftly read its contents.
With each line, his brow furrowed deeper, his face darkening.
“What?!” The emperor suddenly rose, crushing the letter in his fist, the paper crackling under the force.
His eyes blazed, his voice low and powerful, “The Northern Yan Kingdom… dare to…”
His words broke off abruptly, his gaze sweeping the court like a torch.
A tense silence fell over the hall, as if the stillness before a storm.
Lin Shiya’s heart sank, a sense of foreboding washing over her.
She instinctively looked toward Murong Fu, only to find his expression equally grave.
