Chapter 130: The World Falls Silent, Forever Plunged into Darkness (Part 1)
During that time, an amusing incident also occurred. Since Xiao Ke’ai was carried all the way by Wu Zui, some people assumed that Wu Zui was a criminal who trafficked in young girls. Several passersby even called the police, nearly getting Wu Zui thrown into jail.
Fortunately, Xiao Anguo’s special wanted notice still carried some weight.
Besides, Meidadu had descended into such chaos that it resembled a pot of boiling porridge, and many spirit detectives knew that Wu Zui was behind it all. Although laughing at the suffering people of Meidadu felt somewhat inappropriate, quite a few spirit detectives still laughed without restraint.
Once everything had been explained, Wu Zui boarded a plane.
After returning to Yanjing City, he placed Xiao Ke’ai in Xiao Anguo’s underground office and let her slowly restore her magnetic energy inside the magnetic-energy enhancement chamber.
The karmic fire raging within Wu Zui had also been suppressed once more by the Heart-Questioning Sword. After leaving the place, Wu Zui suddenly found himself at a loss as to where to go. The president of the Clean World Society had escaped him, and Wu Zui was not skilled at using computers to search for people.
It was only then that the hopelessly straightforward Wu Zui remembered that an injured apprentice needed to be looked after. Not to mention that there was something more between them than in an ordinary master-and-apprentice relationship. Therefore, while Xiao Ke’ai remained weak, he ought to stay and care for her.
“I remember she likes the food from that restaurant in Binhai City, the one hidden inside the enormous warehouse. Hmm… The Soaring Dragon One should get me back by evening.”
After thinking it over for a while, Wu Zui drove the Soaring Dragon One, which had been parked near Tianliang Street, straight to Binhai City.
It was Wu Zui’s first time speeding, yet he managed to return to Yanjing City before nightfall. His vehicle was also carrying delicacies he had bought and placed in a temperature-controlled container. In accordance with Xiao Ke’ai’s exacting palate, the container could keep the food inside from losing its exquisite flavor for a short period of time.
Xiao Anguo’s Underground Office
Xiao Ke’ai stared at the food in the temperature-controlled container in Wu Zui’s hands, seemingly able to smell its enticing aroma. Crystal-clear saliva trickled from the corner of her mouth.
“Wipe your mouth and hurry up—time to eat!” Wu Zui teased her with a smile.
“I’m not drooling! This is… this is sweat! Yes, sweat! I just practiced a little Baji Fist. It’s what I left behind during training.” Xiao Ke’ai instinctively wiped the corner of her mouth, then argued stubbornly with an utterly unconvincing excuse.
“All right, it’s sweat. Now eat.” Wu Zui patted Xiao Ke’ai’s fluffy head and spoke with great fondness.
“Okay~”
(* ̄︶ ̄)
The delighted Xiao Ke’ai hurried off to wash her hands. A fluffy blue creature darted out from her body and went to wash its paws as well. It seemed equally interested in the food Wu Zui had brought back.
Like master, like servant.
…
“You dead cat, put that down! You’re already round as a ball, and you’re still eating!”
“My steak!”
“My West Lake vinegar fish! Fat cat, stop right there!”
…
In the end, the battle concluded with Cat Commander snatching the only remaining West Lake vinegar fish from the table and vanishing through the wall in an incorporeal state. Xiao Ke’ai’s furious curses and threats to stew it alive brought the food war between the two to a close.
A night of sweet dreams~
The following morning, not long after Wu Zui rose, he saw some astonishing news on the morning broadcast.
“According to reports from Yanjing City residents, at approximately six o’clock this morning, a gigantic pitch-black portal appeared in the sky above an area of Yanjing City. It is reported that spirit detectives have already gone to investigate.”
Wu Zui switched through several other television channels.
“This morning, a gigantic black portal suddenly appeared over the sea not far from Binhai City’s harbor. Spirit detectives have already rushed to the scene to determine the cause. Citizens are advised not to panic!”
As Wu Zui looked at that familiar gigantic portal, his heart jolted.
If the gate connecting to the realm of the dead opened and the monsters within escaped, the gigantic ghost monsters pursuing him alone would be enough to cause countless deaths.
With that thought, Wu Zui immediately got up to find Xiao Anguo. However, Xiao Anguo was no longer in the underground office.
Wu Zui went to Xiao Ke’ai’s room and found that someone had kicked her blanket aside and was sleeping like a little pig. He did not disturb her. Instead, he pulled the blanket over her, left a note, and instructed the guards not to let Xiao Ke’ai wander off.
He then headed toward the location mentioned in the news—the place in Yanjing City where the gigantic portal had appeared.
What Wu Zui did not yet know was that it was not only Huaguo. Other countries had also discovered the gigantic portals that had appeared only moments earlier.
Judging by the number alone, every country had at least two or three gigantic portals.
The location of Yanjing City’s gateway between the two realms was extremely strange, for it appeared directly in the sky above the Dragon-Prison Well.
The pitch-black gate hovered in the air, and wisps of black resentful energy continuously spilled from it. This pure resentful energy gathered in the surrounding area, even attracting wandering ghost spirits, which began converging on the place and fighting among themselves.
The Dragon-Prison Well attracted most of the resentful energy. The energy poured through the mouth of the well into the world at its bottom, providing the monsters within with a steady supply of resentful power.
By then, the spirit detectives who had arrived first had already launched an attack on the gigantic portal that had appeared without warning.
Countless attacks formed from magnetic energy struck the tightly sealed black gate. Yet apart from producing ear-piercing impacts, they had no effect whatsoever. They did not even leave a scratch.
As for Jingqing and Wuxiang, who had originally been at White Dragon Temple in Yanjing City, after treating Wu Zui they had gone separately to Jinling and the world beneath the Dragon-Prison Well to suppress the monsters there. Neither of them could return in time to deal with this suddenly appearing black gate.
Moreover, under the influence of the enormous amount of resentful energy, the mouth of the Dragon-Prison Well had been blocked by the influx. The other spirit detectives could no longer enter to notify Wuxiang. All they could do was wait for Wuxiang, who was below, to discover the situation and come to their aid.
At that moment, Huaguo’s senior authorities were debating whether to deploy heavy weapons against the gateway between the two realms.
If they did, the citizens of Yanjing City would have to evacuate immediately.
Before the authorities could reach a decision, however, the gate opened a crack, and a gigantic pink tentacle emerged from the gateway. Even curled up, the tentacle was as tall as a building of more than a dozen stories.
The spirit detectives nearby immediately launched an attack. Countless magnetic-energy strikes rained down on the pink tentacle, carving numerous wounds several meters long across it.
Pink liquid flowed from the wounds and dripped onto the ground. The pink fluid rapidly evaporated at a speed visible to the naked eye…
Seeing that the magnetic-energy attacks were having little effect, several spirit detectives drew the heavy weapons they were carrying. Golden grenade launchers, golden bombs, and similar weapons were fired alongside the second wave of magnetic-energy attacks.
At that moment, a pink mist rose from the tentacle. Then it gave a powerful flick.
As the tentacle sent the many golden weapons flying, a dark figure was violently hurled from it as well. Mixed among the scattered warheads, it seemed to transform into a shooting star and vanish into the distance. No one knew where it would crash.
Immediately afterward, the pink tentacle rapidly withdrew into the portal. The pitch-black gate gradually faded until it disappeared completely.
“Want me to bring along a burden? Lord Arrogance, you’re far too naive! I’ll leave the gift for you here in Huaguo!”
With that thought, the Lord of Lust closed the gateway between the two realms and departed from Huaguo. By then, the minor wounds on its tentacle had already healed completely. The injuries inflicted by the spirit detectives had barely managed to keep pace with the Lord of Lust’s healing speed.
A seven-star ghost monster was truly terrifying!
The spirit detectives wore solemn expressions. The surrounding crowd, unaware of what had happened, assumed that the detectives’ attacks had driven the monster away and began cheering excitedly.
With the resentful energy from the gateway no longer flowing into it, the mouth of the Dragon-Prison Well was no longer shrouded in thick resentful energy. A spirit detective immediately hurried down to notify Wuxiang and ask him to come up.
Wu Zui had only just arrived when he learned the details after making inquiries.
A gentle breeze passed by~
Where blood had earlier flowed from the Lord of Lust’s tentacle, a dense pink mist now began to rise. The breeze carried it directly into the crowd.
Wu Zui sensed that something was wrong the moment he saw the pink mist, so he quickly retreated away from it. The other spirit detectives did the same. Before they could warn the surrounding people, however, the crowd had already become deeply engulfed in the mist.
Only moments later, the people wrapped in the pink mist, men and women alike, first developed reddened eyes, then flushed faces. Soon afterward, they began chasing after members of the opposite sex who had not yet fallen under its influence, intending to do things that could not be described.
As the breeze continued to blow, the pink mist kept spreading toward Wu Zui.
Without the slightest hesitation, Wu Zui struck first.
Magnetic-energy karmic fire transformed into a barrier, blocking part of the pink mist outside. Any pink mist that touched the karmic fire was burned away completely.
However, the karmic-fire barrier was not large enough. Quite a bit of pink mist still slipped around both sides. The barrier Wu Zui had raised with magnetic energy had already reached its maximum size, leaving him powerless to deal with the mist that leaked past.
At that moment, the other spirit detectives began helping as well. Blue magnetic-energy barriers appeared on both sides of the karmic-fire barrier. Together, the many spirit detectives and Wu Zui resisted the advancing pink mist, assuming that it would disperse once the wind carried it away.
But they were being far too optimistic. The pink mist was extremely dense. The breeze could move it, but it could not disperse it at all.
Some people in the mist, unable to find a target, noticed the spirit detectives on this side. Naked, their bodies appearing and disappearing within the pink haze, they charged toward them.
Their minds had been completely overwhelmed by lust. Human reason and morality had been cast aside. Many spirit detectives were fully occupied maintaining the magnetic-energy barriers and had no attention to spare. As a result, quite a few were dragged into the mist by the crowd.
Lecherous moans continuously echoed from within the pink haze, as more and more spirit detectives were pulled inside by the people who had lost their minds.
At that moment, a golden radiance rose from the bottom of the Dragon-Prison Well. Wuxiang, having received the message, had returned from the world beneath the well.
Golden light instantly enveloped the surrounding area as the domain of a seven-star powerhouse unfolded.
