Chapter 82: Comforted
In the afternoon, right after finishing her recording, Qu Wan hurried back to the set. Nan Jue and Yao Zhao were in the midst of filming a scene together, one where Qu Wan herself had no part that afternoon. She simply sat on a small stool, watching the two of them exchange acting blows. Both were skilled performers, requiring little guidance from the director. Yet, every time their gazes met or the scene called for an emotional exchange, they would struggle to suppress their laughter. Qu Wan found herself grinning along below the stage.
“Wanwan, do you think those two have feelings for each other?” Miao Miao, sitting beside her, whispered.
Qu Wan shook her head. “I don’t know. Don’t jump to conclusions. It wouldn’t be good if someone overheard us.”
“I was just asking. They have such strong chemistry on screen.”
“I have a feeling that when this show airs, their relationship will…”
“What’s the point of all this nonsense? Just tear it apart!” The domineering man’s voice crashed down like thunder, making those of lesser cultivation feel their eardrums tremble, spirits nearly scattering.
Sword of demons in hand, garbed in a Taoist robe, he floated in mid-air. Mang Bailing gazed ahead at the Execution Ghost, who gripped his blade single-handedly, spinning, slashing his evil blade again and again. From the cursed weapon surged gales, whirling madly towards Mang Bailing, who brandished her own demon sword in response. Ominous signs appeared in the sky, winds and clouds surging, a terrifying presence beyond compare. The scene was eerily reminiscent of the great cataclysm of old, sending shudders through any who had survived it, fearing the world’s end was upon them once more. Yet, gradually, the divine radiance faded, the overwhelming pressure dissipated.
As for the price paid by Yu Bin, it amounted to no more than a dozen sturdy skeletons, yet in return, he gained thirty skeletal warriors and twenty skeletal hunters.
Jie Mu nodded, sighed, and sat down beside the other two, placing Guzhu before him. Though his voice was faint, it carried strength, revealing he was not gravely harmed. In contrast, the other’s voice, though still clear, betrayed serious injury; it seemed he had only minutes left to live.
Bai Shu nodded to Lu Jingxiu. She said nothing in thanks, only cast one last lingering look at the pot of narcissus before turning to leave.
“Elder brother, you are indeed wise and experienced. That’s right, this item is called the Diagram of Heavens and Earth, something I obtained by chance. Within it lies a residence,” Chengtian explained.
Take Lei, for example: upon sensing the abyssal power within Charles, he simply nodded and sent him off to carry out his task. While some drawbacks might exist, the dog-fighting ring had always managed things well.
In the scripture cave, Li Shan found a secluded, quiet spot and took off his purple robe, changing into the red robe of an alchemy apprentice. Surprisingly, it fit him rather well.
The weather had grown warm. Many neighbors idled in the courtyard. With it being the hour when people returned from work, quite a few, weary and dust-laden, were just arriving home.
Suddenly, a figure appeared and seated himself at the very front of the night-watchers’ camp. All eyes turned. It was a proud, solitary old man, who, at a glance, resembled an unsheathed sword—sharp and intimidating in his quietude.
The Li family’s situation was not unique, yet it was a pity that so many hotheaded youths were locked away by their elders before they could even make trouble outside their own doors.
Smoke of war billowed. Wang Chonghuan’s banner had been felled by Li Heng, replaced with a mighty character for Chu.
She still remembered the first time she met that chubby man, as well as the moment when, upon discovering her deception, he angrily tossed the lollipop back at her.
The reverse was true as well: Shen Yixia, staring at the closed window, could only leave the inn in disappointment, aimlessly wandering the streets. After a few minutes, quite by chance, he noticed an open door.
But when things are spoken so openly, some who would never dare cause trouble have no choice but to lay bare all their secrets.
Indeed, this disciple of his had become the very faith of everyone in Ming, as though so long as he was present, the sky itself could not fall.
And what Chuiben had revealed to them was only the beginning, for they had not even left Long Province yet. What of the world beyond?
A gentle breeze swept through. Fallen leaves danced. The battlefield emptied, leaving only members of the Gu family behind. A single leaf drifted onto Nantian’s face, rousing him from his shock. Without a word, he collapsed, exhaled deeply, and closed his eyes, drifting off to sleep amid the cool wind.
